Mine are the first version. I got them not long after they came out.

What's to say that this isn't from some type of metal "shaving" getting caught between the cam and the rocker and causing some scratches?

I'm not going to say that there is no chance of a potential legitimate problem, but I still have every intention of getting GSC cams soon, and I doubt that this is indicative of a "failure" of any kind.

At least there is a response and full willingness to look at the issue and correct it if need be.

to getting it resolved!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Like I said before this seems to be something from the old version and very few cases. GSC has prolly the best customer service I've seen thus far. You'll be happy.

I plan on going with the GSC 272's especially after seeing the GREAT customer service I just read about. HKS took forever to resolve my problem. I had to wait months for a "new shipment" to come into port and this was after a few weeks of BS dealing with emails, taking pictures, and shipping it back.

It could be anything causing it. Don't be so quick to judge.

They aren't scratches. It almost looks like the lobe is galled, but the rockers look perfect. It's as if the surface of the lobes have random hairline cracks in them, only on the ramp up and down. It's very strange, but I personally don't feel it's immanently catastrophic.

Yes, I'm speaking from personal experience, and yes Greg is taking care of it.

I'd still like to hear GSC's response to my question about paying for a reinstall if we had to send them back.

I can bet you they won't. It's similar to clutch manufacturers...if the clutch is defective, most reputable brands will rebuild/send you a new clutch, but they won't pay for the labor. That's how it goes for aftermarket parts.

I honestly don't expect them too, but in reality they should. The customer shouldn't have to pay for something twice if they received a defective part. It's not like were talking about an exhaust or something simple.

I hear what you're saying but it would be near unheard of for them to do that. What about people like myself who didn't pay for their install? Should GSC reimburse me for my time? lol...

Not gonna happen and in this normally non-customer service driven industry you are considered lucky to get replacement parts.

Honestly, it does really look like superficial scuffing at worst. This wouldn't stop me from buying GSCs and my brother's car (1.8T) runs just as well as ever.

I agree with you 100%. It almost looks like impact fractures like when you crack an egg.

Ok guys from all the pictures we have gotten about 4 sets and what it appears to be is the coating. What I think and the company that makes them for us is that the coating expands at a different rate than the metal Core and that it’s normal for it to show a cracking appearance. The actual cam is not cracking it’s the coating. I have one set that will be here first of next week we are going to send them out to get ex-rayed so we can confirm this. If this is the case and anyone who has a problem with them we will exchange them for our V2 cam Free of charge including shipping both ways. From what we have gotten as far as people that confirmed the issue it shouldn't be much more that 10 out of the 150 sets of first run cams. As long as the Ex-Ray comes back clean it is going to be up to the discretion of the owner if they want to take them out and replace them with the V2.

Everyone has my word we will take care of this as fast as we can. Sorry for any inconveniences or worries GSC has put you under.

Best Regards,

I have no doubts that if there is actually a legitimate problem, greg will resolve the issue.. I have V2s.. ill probably take a peak, buts its not like someone has experienced engine failure as a result of these cracks.. and there are lots of people running them. I dont think its anything to panic over.
