Cams without tuning

So I have a new set of 272s I'd like to put in this weekend. My mods are as follows:

K&N Filter
Works P2 Flash
TBE
Forge RS BOV

I will not be able to be tuned for a while, perhaps I'll wait till I get AEM EMS. What are the effects of cams without tuning specifically for the 272s? I know the obvious one is funky idle. That I can live with. But what about AFR's or anything else? I live in Reno, so altitude is about 4800 ft. and gas is wonderful 91 oct. So what should I do?

You'll need to tune, im pretty sure you would run lean, without tuning it wouldn't be worth it to install

Your AFR will be off, but it will run--I don't think you'd run lean though. Get a reflash from Works.

I'd like to get a reflash, but I can't be without my car for 3 days.

I've been running on HKS 272s for 3 months without a tune, but I also installed a Walbro fuel pump at the same time. Still can't decide if I want an AEM EMS or Dynoflash.
I'm not sure what my AFR is, but I don't hear any knock and the car runs great.

It should not be lean, on the contrary, it should be rich, since the ecu will add more fuel because it will receive a lot more air. It'l run, not as good as tuned, but just ok

if you need just for daily driver, go with ECUTEK or DYNOFLASH.

I've had the HKS 272's installed for 7 months now, and i'm untuned.. also debating the AFC/EMS/Flash dillema.. You'll be fine, but it does run super rich, under WOT pulls you can see smoke (w/a catless TBE).

272's

I too have HKS 272's without a tune. The car runs rich, I'll be getting a custom Dynoflash in a month but for now I'm happy... I raised the idle to a little over 1k rpm... still lopey but it pulls hard to redline

If you would set the cam geras I -4, E -1, you wouldn't have to raise the idle.
Mine idles like stock (850 rpm), can't tell the cams are in.

Put em in and enjoy the idleing sound of power on tap, it won't hurt a thing.

Cams are cool!

Due to scheduling conflicts, I ran for over a month with HKS 272s set at 0,0 without at tune (I was previously flashed for other stuff). When I went to finally get tuned, I was told by Al that my car was actually running pretty well, and that it only needed a few minor tweaks. In other words, it certainly isn't BEST to run it untuned, but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you eventually do it. You'll be happy when you do get tuned (or standalone, or whatever)...

By the way, I asked this same question to a lot of people before I did it, and people really scared me into thinking I had to IMMEDIATELY get tuned, but that wasn't the case for me...
