Unhappy Vibrations are CRACKING my oil pan/flywheel cover!

Ok, I found the problem to the oil-leak problem. It appears the oil-pan has cracked at more than 1 bolt holding it on. Mostly the top-rear ones. Why me? I guess why not. The thin metal "flywheel/clutch cover, (dust cover?) also cracked almost in half from the bolts inward. I replaced that 1500 miles ago, and lo and behold, the new one is cracking also. Anyone know why this is happening? good thing the whole oilpan didn't have a larger crack, or it would have gone kaboom!

Is there an aftermarket oil pan out there? I am having so many problems with my car lately, I have hired a Violin quartet who follow me around, everytime I open the door to the car, they start playing! I can also feel the vibrations pretty strong thru the bolts in my seat everytime I take my foot off the gas! Maybe that explains why my wife wants to drive the car more often, but thats another thread.

Does anyone have an oil pan lying around for my car? anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the oil pan, but the flywheel cover is just a barrier that is a pretty weak metal. Improper instalation is probably the cause of the cracking. Either you torqued the bolts too tight, or out of order.

you have a prob.. either your harmonic dampener, flywheel, or balance shafts are the prob.

My Mitshu Mechanic is VERY ****, he has a digital torque wrench and does everything by the book, so that cant be the cause.

Bolsen, will get photos up soon, just went up there, and it cracked from "bolt to Bolt" drivers side top bolt, all the way around to a passenger side bolt. he cleaned it off, started the car, and you could see it puddle on the bolts, and the hairline crack leading to the other bolt.

from the sounds of the vibration your describing im willing to bet its the balance shafts... also you have the factory dampended pulley on the crank, and hopefully not the unorthodox unbalanced one.. that leads to big probs to..

If it was the balance shafts, wouldn't my timing belt have broken, or something more serious happened. Another thing: While on the dyno at Dyno4mance, my serpentine belt shredded! it was because the aluminum tube going to the AC condensor BROKE at the top of the AC Condensor. the aluminum tube BROKE Due to the vibration, and dug into the serpentine belt, causing it to Fray, while on the dyno. I am breaking alot of stuff which appears to be from the vibrations. and othe ideas?

Sounds like the balance shafts are out of Phase... it is an easy mistake to make...

Also sounds like the mounts are probably shot. Things like the AC line I would expect to happen from excessive movement and not simple vibration.

Ouch...I'd hate to think what all of this has been doing to the bearings...

Hello again Zeus, is this something the Mitshu tech will know if i say "could the balance shafts be out of phase?" how is it fixed, and how did they get out of Phase? Thanks in advance! how labor intense is this job?

Unfortunately, you just don't know until they start to go (no rhyme intended). But you can also send an oil sample off to have it analyzed for metal content. If there is excess bearing material there, then trouble may be coming.

I hate say it for your sake...but with that much vibrational stress, it would be hard for me to think they are not already significantly damaged
