Please Help!...Emergency! Fuel problem? Engine?

I left a tunning shop yesterday...
So Im driving home and about 30 miles down the highway...I see Im low on gas, so I pull off at the next exit...get to a gas station, they only have 87. Got back on the highway to find another gas station...light comes on(gas light)...find another exit for gas...pull in, they too only have 87...so I get in line waiting for gas...the car runs out of gas So I get it to the pump...put about $10.00 worth of gas (87 oct) just so I can make it to one more gas station...so I drive like a madman to hurry up to find a gas station to get some premium gas...and I did...I fill her up and put some STP gas fuelcleaner additive...the gas attendant told me to drive hard to blow the bad sh#t out...so I did....about 10 mile from home, the car start to bog, backfire, cut off, lose power...WTF
So basically I creep home with alot of backfiring, shutdown, restarts! Engine oil light coming on and going off.

This morning I start her up...let her warm up, runs normal no warning lights...looks good...sounds good...

Then about 3 minutes later...I hear a low tap....then the tap get alittle louder (from the engine) not real loud...medium.

So I shut her down, because Im scared...

I checked the oil again...the level is a little higher than I remember it being and real dark...(I just changed the oil last week)

What is going on? Help!

Someone have any idea what I should do?
Anyone else ever had a problem like that?
Solutions?

Try a gallon or two of Xylene. Has an octane rating of 117 I believe and you can find in it in the paint department at your local Home Depot.

Same thing happened to me when I had a Mustang GT about 3 years ago. She was tuned(JDM in Freehold NJ) to take only 94 and I nealry ran out of gas so I pull into a station and the gas attendent inadvertantly filled her with 87 instead. About five minutes later the car started to detonate. Luckily the motor didnt blow up. Get the gas out of the car and do not drive it until it is drained. Fill her up with some 93 and take it to the dealer if it still makes the tapping sound in the engine. Good luck!

Matt

Never use octane boosters. Almost all of them use MMTs. Those are bad, mkay?
