what do you guys spool up at stock?

this morning i got a call from a friend of mine whos a BMW tech, and i guess he test drove an 04 evo with 7k miles on it, and he said it was a really bad drive. now i have driven an 03 and i loved it. he said the engine was what did it in for him. said it spools at 4700-5k. that seems a little off to me, just a bit... as i have a larger than stock turbo and still spool at 3200 in colorado...haha. hes a smart guy but i know evos dont lag that horribly. only explanation i could give him is something was causing the car to pull timing. does that sound about right? let me know cause i wanna let him know whats really up...

i bet if you let 10 people drive the same car you'll get 7 different answers about where it is spooling up.
