My newest ACT story (good)

I'll give timeslip details in the Drag Racing forum, but I felt obligated to provide these results from tonight's trip to the dragstrip as they pertain to the ACT HDSS itself.

- Made 5 passes
- Missed one shift, which was the 4-5 and was not a lockout, but merely driver error
- Nailed best 60' ever (1.66)
- Made every other shift with razorlike precision, including no-lifts on the 3-4
- Shifting was so smooth that I didn't once have to THINK about shifting...this is how it was back on the stock clutch when I was running 12.2s
- Hit personal best 1/8th et, 1/8th mph, 1/4 et, and 1/4mph

The ACT performed admirably tonight - it met every expectation I had when I bought it. The only change since my disastrous trip to the track a few weeks ago is that I adjusted the pedal from 4 threads to 2 threads remaining on the rod. The only question now is how long it will last in its current state of pedal adjustment. I will continue to report back (bad or good).

You should list what you did, clutch adjust, SS clutch line, etc

Only adjusted the clutch pedal out close to the end of the rod. I have yet to change anything else, but I now have a SS clutch line in hand and will be installing that while removing the restrictor next week. This combined with a base flash from Al for the extra 200rpm is what I hope will get me into the 11s next weekend.

good job, was worried there for a while that u wernt going to be able to hit those 11's. glad to hear that u got ur clutch sorted out so that u can hit ur goal. so i guess u still have the option to be 2nd at 11's in a registered MR i guess, right?

Yeah, could still be the 2nd MR to hit 11s, but the first without cams. I was hoping to do it without cams or a flash, but it looks like I'm going to need that flash for the last 200rpm, since I failed to get the job done tonight.

1.66 is an awesome 60 time... you'll be in the 11's soon.

The clutch will last. I have over 10K miles on my ACT and I have not had one problem with it. The clutch adjustment is the key along with regular fluid changes. My clutch rod is adjusted to within a few threads of the end also. This will give the clutch plenty enough room to fully disengage and prevent it from dragging the flywheel.

By the way excellent times!!

so basically it is a good clutch for the price. and the whole bad act story that was on the boards consistantly for last couple of weeks while u trashed talked the unit is because it was not adjusted right. before you go calling a part a piece of junk make sure its installed right. I know you discouraged certain people not to buy it based on your last thread. I was thinking twice. but on the upnote I'm glad it was just mis adjusted and it is a good unit. Good job on your 60ft.

Again, I never trashed the clutch. I Just merely gave my experience. My clutch was _NOT_ misadjusted. It worked perfectly for 2 months after it was installed, including 2 trips to the drag strip where I hit my previous record of 12.15 twice along with 2 autocrosses that included 12 launches. It wasn't until my 3rd trip to the drag strip that I went from perfect, seamless shifting to the complete inability to shift. I then RE-ADJUSTED the clutch pedal AGAIN as far out as it would go so that it would hopefully work again, and now it does. I didn't trash talk anything; I didn't call anything a piece of junk. I merely reported on my problem and provided my displeasure with having to place my engagement point at an unnatural pedal height. I am now back to report the results of how the clutch performed after ******* it out as hard as I can, because I have no reason to not want the clutch to work. I DO want it to work, but only time will tell. Last night, at least, it passed every test I could throw at it.
