I dont' mind you recommending Exedy. Exedy has certain benefits to their design. They make great parts if you choose the right one for the right application. I could pick on Exedy about certain tradeoffs as well though. But every design has tradeoffs, including ours. My point is that you don't have to talk down ACT to promote Exedy.
How can you say that about ACT anyway?
Oh, yeah, the "problem". Let's review the so called "problem" since it was brought up:
We sell the same clutch design for almost 2 years with great sucess. ACT sales on EVO clutches far exceeds forcasts. Very few complaints or problems of any kind.
Occasional threads or posts on EVOM talk about issues shifting with ACT clutch. ACT president gets involved regularly. Most (or all) are found to be adjustment issues and were easily remedied. Recently however there are rumors emerging of an "ACT problem".
Sept 3:
- Very keyboard happy author starts thread complaining about his ACT locking him from shifting above 7000 rpm. Others join in for and against with debate and discussion.
- Author is convinced all ACT EVO clutches have a problem and there is no fix
With cooperation from ACT, RRE offers to test and fix anyone's vehicle with shifting problems. Two show up and are easily adjusted with no further issues.
10 days and 19 pages later, author of thread tries adjusts his clutch and car shifts fine.
- President of ACT gets actively involved on thread, addressing customers.
Author is still not convinced it is fixed.
- Rumor spreads about a so called "ACT problem" so ACT President authors 21 pages about clutches, design, testing, adjustment, etc to address shifting problems of all types and educate about clutches.
- Many chime in to the mega thread about having no issues at all with their ACT. Others chime in with lockout issues with all kinds of other clutches. Still others with the lockout symptoms.
- President of ACT exchanges several email and phone questions regarding adjustment, etc. personally addressing customers.
- Yesterday: Author of original mega thread goes to drag strip and runs great numbers. He starts new thread to tell of his new found faith in ACT.
- Disclaimer: Now there are always exceptions. There are many other things that can and do happen to cause shifting problems. But they are rare, and usually not problems with the clutch parts. Go back and read about it. I don't want to rehash old news. ACT is not just trying to take the high road.
So you say we are not addressing the so called "problem"? I don't remember any emails or calls from you. I think you are being a bit quick to judge. Believe it or not, as President and CTO, I have normal responsibilities that do not at all include this forum. I help people out on here regularly whether they have an ACT clutch or not. Not to sell clutches, but because I want to help.
Unfortunately, everyone likes a good rumor. I will gladly "address the problem" personally for you if you chance to email me at dstarksen@advancedclutch.com, instead of spreading gossip. Sorry for the book folks.
