just installed intake
some cars (even the same model car) react differently to mods and venting to the atmosphere. some like it, most hate it if theyre MAF cars. either way its throwing your tune out the window durring shifts.
a MAF carwill never run right, especially mitsu's and their Karmen style MAF when venting to the atmosphere. i know it sounds cool but it will never run right if you do it...

Well really the 05 MAF is designed slightly differnet very little change but is differnet. But still yes you need a tune if you get a intake.

I've tried searching...but just coming back with thousands of "which is best", "is this right", and the classic flame-retaliations. I'll just piggy back w/quick question.
I'm reserved to get tuned in 2 weeks down in Tucson (Im in Phoenix) (1.5 hr away drive). I'm interested and plannin on getting the Injen intake (already have lower turbo-side IC pipe installed). I KNOW that once the intake is on it requires a tune/reflash/_____.
Some people might just have the shop they're getting tuned at install the intake and tune it right away. Others like me, would rather save that $____/hr and do it themselves. My question is: Is it safe/do-able to install the intake myself, and then the next day or so (once proper installation verified)drive down to Tucson to get the tune that'll compensate for the new intake (plus other mods)?
No sense in getting the intake done locally, reflashed immediately for it, then driving down to Tucson to get a custom tune. Thanks for the help!

I did the same thing and was fine. I didnt notice any differences in the driving characteristics from stock box to Helix intake pre-tune.

I couldn't agree more
i don't get it... why does my intake work fine? no idle problems... nothing... i even have a biggie intercooler no tune... works fine... why???
i seriously believe that most of the poor idling etc threads from intakes is from dumb asses plugging the wrong **** into the wrong nipples and then coming here and whining. don't expect to get power from an intake. i did my intake for different reasons. but seriously... i'm one year wtih no toon... and **** works fine...

I have an 03 with just a Buschur intake without MAF pipe, and my car runs perfectly fine. This is with stock exhaust. IIRC on a previous intake thread it was mentioned replacing the MAF pipe changes the airflow enough to effect it more than just putting on a cone filter to the existing pipe, requiring a tune.
I do have one question though for proponents of the stock airbox. Why when Buschur tested an 03 and changed only the stock airbox did he gain 7ft/lbs of torque with no tune?

If someone can convince me this was an anomoly, I will forever convert back to the stock airbox side...
