best bov?

hi i just got a new 05 stock evo8 and i plan to install a nice BOV on it but im such a noob when it comes to cars that i only ask for cheap price ($200-300) and ease of installation. the catch is....i dont want to spend more than that money getting some small bolts or rings or whatever attachment needed. currently i have my eyes set on the HKS SSQV because i heard from people that they deliver great performance and cheap (around $250). so if you guys know any good bov brands please reply =]

I have the greddy type s with the single spring mod. Both spring installed made my car idle too rough.

There are many many many different bovs out there. My question to you is what are you looking to get out of it? Hold higher than stock boost, better construction, hear the bov sound....

First thing is recirculate the bov back into the intake. Venting to the atmosphere can cause stalling and rich issues.

So if you want to hear it you have 2 options -

1 - go with a cone style intake filter that replaces the stock intake box (NOTE: but leaves the intake piping post MAF)

2 - go with a dual vent bov that can send air to both intake and VTA. These need some easy tuning to get the right amount of air back into the box. But you will be able to hear them.

If its performance with out sound -

HKS is one of the few push/pull type units out there - meaning boost pushes it close then the vacumn opens it. Others use springs to hold the boost back and some can leak under heavy force.

A cost effective unit is either the JDM MR bov or the Tomei bov. The Tomei is a modified version of the JDM MR. Costs are below 200.

As far as manufactures go - its cats meow. APS, Forge, Greddy, HKS, Tomei, JDM MR....it comes down to preference, mods, plans, manufactor loyalty.

I used a turbosmart BOV for a while, had it blocked off for 100% recirc and spent a week trying to adjust it, never really worked for me, now I have a 1g DSM bov with the stop leak mod done to it and I love it, drives smooooooth and holds boost like a champ. Its not loud at all which is exactly what I wanted all along.

Many of our customer are using the APS. It works great and does not cause stalling issues.

Anytime a customer is looking for a BOV for their EVO I recommend Greddy Type RS, APS, and Forge.

i dont mean to steal the thread or anything....but can you really tell a difference if you buy an aftermarket BOV rather then just keeping the stock one???

I have the APS dual port BOV... I didn't notice too much off a difference except it holds the boost a little better when I shift, oh and it sounds pretty cool too
