264/272/280 cam idling vid
Everything can be considered cheap insurance these days. Every major tuner and shop has said springs/retainers are a waste with any of the HKS cams. I have yet to see one DSM or EVO's head fail due to springs. Show me one (other than ones that havent revved TOO HIGH on the stock valvetrain) which no matter what the cams, it will ruin things...

If you put a higher duration cams, like the 280's, there will be longer pressure put on the stock springs than normal. After awhile the spring will have a tendency to not "spring" back fast enough to close the valves. To be safe, I would change the springs, even though alot of guys here don't agree with me. If think about it, if you are racing at the track and hitting high rpms, wouldn't you want those valves to close fast enough so that they won't hit the pistons?
