Proper substitute for Methanol in Alky kit

I've been looking around this whole sight and can't find anyone who asked this question. I'm looking for something that can substitute methanol, that can be used in and alky kit, and can be found in Home Depot. I know it can be done, but I don't know what to look for. Any help would be appreciated.

Denatured Alchohol. Home Depot and 99% of building supply and hardware stores carry it.

Denatured alcohol = ethanol + fouling agents(MeOH, acetone, MEK...)

yea and its 12$ a gallon. good luck with it while methanol is only 2-3$ a gallon. if you want a substitute then just use windshield wiper fluid.

wait, so that would be safe enough to run in an alcohol injection kit?

Yep, wiper fluid is a blend of alcohol and water, with some detergents..

I think you might have to retune slightly.. I've only run methanol on a mechanical kit that I removed.. the new kit I have (A buschur kit) I intend to only run stuff I can get easily, and is safe (won't evaporate or freeze), which means washer fluid..

I think you have to back off on your tune ever so slightly, I don't have enough time with the alky kit to really give you anything more than my opinions..

That depends on the injection volume of the kit used. The less volume, the less deviation in tuning from one to the other.

And where that is concerned, the larger the injection volume, the worse wiper fluid or any other water mix becomes as an injection option, simply because it doesn't take very much water to blow the engine.

Methanol can be obtained by the 55gal drum from any industrial chemical supply. Handling bulk methanol requires nominal safety and common sense. Methanol purchased by the drum costs less than gasoline.
