Next Performance Mod Advice Needed!!

Hey all,

Here are my current mods:

- Injen Intake
- Injen upper IC pipe
- RnR 3" turboback
- RnR 3" o2 Housing (not installed yet)
- HKS 272/272 cams
- ARP Headstuds
- Hallman MBC
- Turbotrix custom 2.5" lower ic pipe
- TurboXS FMIC
- NGK BPR7ES Spark plugs
- Walbro 255lph fuel pump
- Turbotrix ECU flash

I really want to get a alky kit, and run 100% methanol. However I don't want to run it on a reflash because I do a lot of driving, and a lot of far driving, out of state, etc. and I dont want to be out and run out of methanol.

So therefore I was thinking of getting a UTEC. That way I can have a pump gas map, and a pump gas with meth map. But I i'm no tuner, i want to get it tuned and just leave it. I was with my friend the other night, and he has UTEC, and has a pump gas tune and pump + meth tune, he wanted to show me what his car could do with the meth, but since the weather was cooler, he was getting some knocking. Luckily for him, he's a lot more capable than I am, and knows how to adjust his tune accordingly by himself, not needing a tuner.

That sort of turned me off to the UTEC because with a reflash I don't have to worry about that.

So now I'm kind of confused which way to go? I'm thinking should I go with the UTEC + Methanol, or should I just go with some other mod like a 10.5hotside or something else..

What do you guys recommend? Any suggestions?

Let me know.

Thanks!

Well, tuning has alot to do with things.. Many of us with alky haven't had a cold snap yet to make adjustments. Trust me, if you go with the UTEC you'll have enough local support to not have to worry about learning to do it yourself, you'll learn quickly. I second the 10.5 turbine housing too, or a Buschur 20G..

Your at the point where you have to make decisions based on cash, you can spend money to optimize what you have more, or make a more significant jump. I think you'll be happiest by optimizing everything you have..

I would suggest a few things..

1) 10.5 housing, or TME turbo, or better yet, a Buschur 20G if you can afford it..
2) HKS DLI-II If you want to run more boost, definitely consider an ignition upgrade
3) Blowthrough MAF if possible.. This probably made the biggest gains in my car's setup
4) UTEC of course..

you know you don't have to run straight methanol in the alky injection system. You can run simple windshield washer fluid which is 49/49/1 (water/meth/dye) normally, and it's only $1 for a jug. Then, no matter where you are, all you have to find is a gas station or wal-mart that sells it, easy. Although it's debatable, I don't think the added performance from running 100% methanol is negligible, if any. If you haven't already do alot of research on alky/water injection and you'll see what I'm talking about.

But yeah, if you are trying to keep it simple and budget-minded, I vote alky kit and re-flash.

I totally agree with MalibuJack. Unless you plan to go with a bigger turbo setup in the near future.

I also agree with Malibu Jack on this one.

With the HKSDLI2 Ignition upgrade I can boost to 30psi on the stock 9.8 turbo with alky kit. It will spike to 30psi and fall down to about 26psi and stays there till redline.

I also have a UTEC, have 5 maps stored in there one for 91 gas, 94, gas, 100 gas alky + 91, and alky +91 higher timing map.

I've made 380whp on the stock turob boosting 26psi, and 410whp boosting 30psi

I would do Meth/Alchohol/Water injection and a tune.

For injection I would look at AMS's kit (automotosports) or buschur's if you have an 03-04.

After that a tune is obviously required.

For that I would find a local tuner around you can trust and ask him what EMS he likes using the best. Most of the time you will have the best luck doing this. But I guess since you are in NY you could find someone pretty close to tune just about anything.

I would look into Ecutek, ECU+, Utec.... With what I took from your post, you dont want to go to a full standalone like AEM EMS, Motec, Autronic, Hydra.

Yep, I would go for the UTEC as well, get a grasp on the tuning aspect then start building up the car once again.

i'd use the buschur kit because of its ease of install, unless u want to keep the intercooler sprayer, then buy a SMC trunk mount kit from me. AMS's kit is like 700$ and I've seen it fail and blow someones motor up. The pump just stopped spraying. for 500$ you can get a SMC kit that so many people are using and there are no issues with. yes he had a bad batch of controllers which has now been fixed, BUT look for a new part coming out that will lower your boost if the kit fails, or stops spraying... and it should be <100$

thanks guys for all your responses!

I like the "malibujack' method hehe

Another thing is, i plan on going with a bigger turbo down the road, sometime next year. Something along the lines of a GT30R or a RnR 50 trim turbo kit.

Nothing is final, but it's the general way that i'd like to go.

As for a blowthrough MAF, can anyone highlight the benefits of that? pro's and con's?

I will search the forums, but if any1 can add anything about that, i'd appreciate it.

thanks again fellas
