evo IX magnesium turbo swap

Its just a matter of time before its done... but im just wondering if anyone plans on purchasing the new evo IX rs turbo for use on their VIII...Now that the car has been out for a little while in japan, is there any information available about what is needed for this piece? Is the exhaust manifold the same piece? would you need a new manifold or is this going to be a direct bolt on to the existing setup.

THe wheels in the turbo are aerodynamically the same as the 03-05 turbos. the benefit would be the mag and titanium parts with the 10.5 hotside and a larger compressor cover than the 03-05 turbos. the turbo itself is available for purchase from mitsubishi for about 1600 bucks.

Maybe this is way of preventing mods to actually honor\deny their warranty

Just in case this is new news the dealer won't honor your warranty but they still get the bad parts warranty from the supplier. They are charging you for a part that they may be getting free.

you guys should wait to see how the usdm evo ix's do with some bigger power mods. it should be pretty evident if turbos blow out quickly because i dont see to many bone stock evos on this site.

yeah.. but is the evo IX turbo in japan a completely new turbo.. its like 15% larger in side by side comparisons, your making it sound like its just a TME turbo..to me it looks like its an all new turbo, that im sure is more effecient.. plus i think a 35r would be a little bit overkill for autox.. especially after i have seen the power of a stock based turbo on kent jordans car.. pulling many cars lengths on vipers on the straights.

Bd, Kent's car has 2.3 stroker and some larger turbo than stock to pull on the vipers...

considering there is a lrger compressor housing on the JDM evos, but the mag is breaking and heavier then titanium. i guess your new best option is titanium swap of internals on the JDM IX turbo. and there is no more need to mentioning of the 10.5 since it is already on the 05s it is now a given for any future model untill they change the hotside again.

The new turbo is a Ti/Mag combination.

Ti for the exhaust and Mag for the intake.

of course.. but he still doesnt need a gt35r.. and he was doing pretty well even when he had the stock block. I in no way aspire to have such a monstrous car as kents.. but a stockish turbo upgrade will be more then adequate for me.

all this 16g upgrade crap is too much time and money for what its worth, just piece together a turbo kit (3071, 3076, 35r...or whatever) and have a custom manifold fabricated.
you'll be happier with the results

Id like to see the IX turbo put to its limits and see what it can make.

What would be the advantage of having a 15% larger compressor housing but using the same size wheel?
