AMSoil MTL SAE 75w90 GL4 (Tranny)
I have tried Redline, Motul for my LSD equipped evo gearboxes but sadly the only one that will work perfectly is the Amsoil AGL Synthetic gear oil 80W-90. Works like a gem with solid smooth shifting at all weather even when auto crossing in extreme temperatures. In the morning its bit notchy but works perfectly after a short drive. The rest fails when the temperature goes up and have even contributing to high rpm grinding during shifts... if you ask me, Amsoil it is all the way...
I think i remember about a year ago, a vendor was using this throughout the entire driveline. Tranny, tc, and rear diff. Was working great from what i remember. If it works in all the high revving 2 strokes and racing applications its gotta work for the evo 2. If only it was as easy to get as royal purple.
I don't use the tranny fluid but I do use the AMSoil engine oil 5w30. I changed from Mobil1 at 50K miles and I now have 109K miles with no issues. I'm currnetly putting down 340WHP. The AMSoil is an extened use oil so I change the oil every 7500 miles. The most oil I've had to add between changes was 1/4th of a quart. My gas mileage went up about 8% also.
AMSoil Gear Lube
I have used AMSoil 75W90 S2000 in the transmission of my 2003 Evo for the last 20K miles. It made the gearbox much smoother on the street.
There has been a lot of discussion in various threads about GL-4/GL-5. AMSoil rates this lube as GL-2 through GL-5.
But, after 15 minutes or so on the track, it becomes very easy to shift through the synchros on the 3-4 change. It takes a 2-3 second hesitation for them to do their job. No problem until the gear oil heats up. The same thing happens after 3 hours or so on the road.
Obviously, as it heats up, the friction characteristics of the lube change. Of course, I could never get the local Mitsubishi dealer to address the problem, because there is no place near the dealership that I could do a 3-4 shift at high rpm because of the speed. It shifts just fine at lower rpm.
My AMSoil rep replaced the fluid for me, but it didn't help. At least I know that the problem is not caused by breakdown.
I'm changing to some combination of Pennzoil Synchro/GM Synchro/Redline. Based on the threads on this topic, it appears that a Pennzoil/Redline blend might give me some improvement.
