why is everyone using MBC and not EBC?

Just curious as to why almost every one is using manual boost controller (MBC) rather than getting the electrical ones (EBC)??

Anyone have used turbosmart MBC? are they any good? thank you

Because MBC's work just as good as EBC's and are alot cheaper.

I run an EBC, HKS EVC EZ. More expensive but holds boost and controls it better. It works better than the TurboXS or the Hallman I had. But most of them only control boost to about 30-35psi. If you are running more you need an MBC.

I used to have an AVC-R and i recently switched to a hallman. MBC's are just so much cheaper and easer to use and they do the same job. The AVC-R was so confusing to tune properly, so i could never get it right.

that about sums it up.

people that have ebc will say they work better to justify spending $300 or so more

I found the Hallman held boost much better than my Greddy Profecs, Spec-B and Type-S, plus as stipulated above, its super easy to use. My opinion.

A MBC is just a simple adjustable spring tensioned in line ball type pressure relief valve that either blocks or sends the sensing air for wastegate actuation. Until the Forge, the hallman was the most popular.

For $90 and simplicity you can't really go wrong with the clean MBC setup, just depends on preference and budget.

any problems with MBC not being able to hold boost (around 20-22psi) till redline?

thank you again

Hallman MBC, nothing beats it for the price. EBC's are a waste of money IMO.

There is a lighter spring available in Hallman MBC's, they dont hold bost for crap, so make sure it is the heavier one. I have a hallman along with my ems, because I have yet to get the gm boost solenoid to work right, and it works great.

definately not a waste of money for an ebc in our area....consider the temperture can change over 50 degrees in 4 hours.. with siginificant elevation changes. At nigh we have a dense fog coming off the pacific ocean with 50 degree temps or colder.. during the day the temperture is a dry 90 degrees. And MBC cannot deliver conistant boost levels under those circumstances. I had a hallman before and once i switched to an avcr it was clear which was superior.. because of the design I can get the boost to rapidly spiked up then level off immediately to the desired boost level.. then electronically taper to redline.. cant do that with an mbc.. and you can have taper at redline..cyber evo uses the same AVC-R..i dont see them running around with a hallman, plus it doubles as a boost gauge, so its actually cheaper then getting a nice boost gauge and mbc.

The avc-r is overwhelming if you dont have it dialed in on the dyno.. the trick is to have the gains set very high on the ends and lower in the middle.. its not just as simple as plugging in the boost and a single gain setting to get an aggressive ramp up.. my car spools very fast.. look at the torque onset. Id like to see some charts that show faster spool up with an mbc for comparison.

MBC can easily hold 20-22 time after time. Many people blame the boost taper on the MBC when it's most likely the BOV leaking, wastegate cracking open, or a combo of theses in conjunction with a maxed out turbine (cant keep up), or just variances in weather. All the MBC does is send air to WG actuator when the air reaches its dialed psi.

Also, another thing, if anyone has boost spike that annoys them, a way to soften the spike is to shorten the line that comes out of the MBC to the WG actuator. Mine is less than 10 in. and does not spike at all - when the needle stops, it holds
