Something really wierd with my EVO IX and a friends EVO IX..
We both have Evo IX's. I picked mine up like 2 days ago and my friend got his about a week ago. This thread is in response to this one https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=165759
....what the hell is going on here. We are both bone stock and have no 5k rev limit. I just noticed that the other day. When I go full throttle in gear ( any gear ) and then shift into neutral fast my rpm's come down slow, not as slow as the last video of the thread creators post but pretty slow. Could it be possible that our's weren't connected ? Because late apex, another one of our friends with an Evo IX has the 5k limiter. I'll have to go check it out tommorow morning. This is really frickin weird.
I know there are couple more of us Evo IX owners in here. Someone please try going full throttle in any gear then letting off and and going into neutral please. See if the rpm drops slowly.

Apparently the IXs and for sure the 05 8s have a hanging rpm function for emissions. What happens is when you let off at full or close to full (3/4) the rpms will hang for a second or stay high, happens when you are revving high when not moving. This function makes the car flow more air to thin out the richness of our exhaust - so for emissions it will read lower than if it just dropped rpms. If the car stays in high rpms and doesnt seem to be dropping put the car in neutral, and press the clutch in and out a few times. This will trigger the ECU to drop the revs back down.

I'm not sure whether it's for emmision or not but I thought it was to help people who's learning to drive manual
Since the RPM doesn't drop it allows you to go to the next gear easier but it sucks for DR. Either that or the throttle plate is sticking or the spring tension sucks.

Its for emissions. It was the very first thing I noticed when I test drove my car. I know some Mitsu tech guys, so it was one of my first questions for them. I do not believe 03/04 Evos do this, it was new for 05. And seems to have carried over to 06.

How in the hell does making a car run crappy make the environment cleaner?
- Does it help the environment? NO
- Does it decrease performance? YES
- What good is it? Money in the pockets for the legislators who come up with these worthless restrictions and who wouldn't have a job if they didn't have the ability to make your car slower. Makes the car more expensive too.
Soon it will be illeagal to modify your car, just wait. We lucked out this time but when someone like Kerry is in office, we're in trouble. Remember what Jimmy Carter did in the 70's to the muscle cars? V8 camaros went from 300HP to 110HP in one year and got worse gas milage.

I think its more of a bandaid. It tricks the sniffers by adding more flow to thin out the mixture. But the result is that our rpms artifically hang for a sec or two. Does this help the environment - nah. Does this decrease performance - no, not really - at least not hp - I would say it hurts our clutch more.
Sad part is not all states require emission testing - MI doesnt, OH, NJ, NY...etc...do.
Well ya, Evos from the home country, or any other car from the country they are from are better, but thats more of an opinion.
It is already illegal to modify cars in some areas. There was a guy that got a ticket for his exhaust being aftermarket. And in Cal, or parts of Cal, you can get ticketed for "illegal" modifications - intakes, exhausts...things like that. SEMA has fought many of those new laws, and has won. So dont worry too much, we still should be ok, at least to gas runs out.
And I wouldnt say we lucked out with GWB in office. This last election I think either way we were screwed. And it wasnt just Carters actions in the 70s (do you know what an oil embargo is?, leaded to unleaded gas...etc) and Nixon (a Rep) was the one who signed the law to create the EPA. So read up on your env. history.

If you are rolling or stopped in neutral with your foot off the clutch give it some good revs. It will catch and hold the rpms with your foot off the gas. To turn that off you have to press the clutch a few times to deactivate it.

My numbers, and anyone elses for that matter - are irrelevant. What he is asking about is the rpm hang/rev hold function on the 05s. If you have a problem PM me.

It is a proven fact that blow off discharge does little if anything to "spool the turbo". If it did, we would see high performance recirculation kits vs. NO2
On the stock turbo, it spools instantaneously on it's own so even if there was conclusive evidence documenting BOV discharge increasing spoolup time, it would be irrellevent as the turbo takes a split second to regain boost.
