spark plug change messed up!

i just changed my plugs on my 04 EVO VIII to NGK Iridium IX's...the install was easy, but once i put everything back together and started my car, it idled even crappier than before! it'svery choppy in short increments. whenever i give it some gas...it sounds like a go kart! what did i do wrong???? plus it smells like gas.

Make sure you connected everything correct and tight + see if you pushed the plug wires onto the plugs all the way.

Which plugs did you get? BPR7EIX or BPR8EIX? Did you check the gap on them? You aren't supposed to mess with the gap on Iridiums, but sometimes the electrodes get damage during handling or installation. I'd first check that each plug wire is securely fastened, and then if they are fine, take out the plugs and check the electrodes.

BPR7EIX

my extension on my socket wrench was barely long enough to fit in the socket, i tightened them quite a bit... all guestimating

Not supposed to tighten them very much. You're supposed to tighten them to a certain torque spec, which is not as much as you'd think when tightening by hand.

I'd take them out and doublecheck each one, because one might have broken.

make sure the plugs are gapped to the correct specs
Spark plug gap: 0.7 - 0.8 mm (0.028 - 0.031 inch)

tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft-lb).

i took them out, checked them...they all seemed fine. put the stock ones back in...hooked everything up (correctly)..same problem. but i did notice that one of the screws on the maroon engine cover has a crack around it...spewing oil all over the black "mitsubishi" cover when idling. i have no idea how that crack got there.
