When is it time for a new clutch?

My car is into the 30,000 mile range now and I am wondering when it is due for a new clutch. The clutch still feels like it grabs hard but I dont think I would even know what it feels like to have your clutch "slip."

I know different people on this forum have changed clutch at different points. As for me I have never gone to the track and dont race around on the streets, I have kept it pretty tame.

I know a friend of mine got stranded when his clutch went out and I dont want this to happen to me. IS this typical or is the car still driveable when the clutch gets towards its ending point?

What are the signs of a "worn clutch?" I just want to know before I get stranded on the side of the road. I did some searching and didnt find what I was looking for.

Thanks a lot in advance!

If your clutch is slipping to test it try putting it in a higher gear like 4th or 5th at just normal cruising speeds, start getting on it letting the car build boost and right when you hit full boost and peak torque the rpms will jump several hundred rpms and then catch again..

At this point your car will still be drivable but you'll deffinitely want to get it fixed soon especially if your wanting to reuse the stock flywheel...

I got a friend with over 60K miles on his stock clutch. Daily driven, NO dragging with the clutch but at least 5 road racing tracks days and the clutch is still ok. He think it's about time to get a new one, but I'm surprise it lasted this long, to be honest.

when your clutch starts slipping you will know.

mac 05evo's test is ususally where you will find your clutch slipping, if its on its way out. if i were you i'd start thinking about a new clutch or be prepared for one.

^^ +1, just do it from time to time to make sure you clutch is ok. Remember if you don't abuse it, it will last a long time.
