272/280 cams

i have searched and haven't had much luck. i am wanting to know if anyone is using 272/280 combo for cams. i am as low on the pole as a mechanic can get and don't understand the way cams actually work. i am wanting to get new cams and have been thinking about the 272/272. but i have been wondering if a 272in/280ex would be better.

i dont really want to go 280/280, any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had the 272/272's for 30K miles, and now have the 280/280's and love both. did road racing with the 280's, great, the 272's I used to do 1 autox and 1 drag race. also very good. the idle is a bit lopey with the 280's, but it just sounds mean, and pulls harder and higher up the rpms, than the 272's did!

do you think having one of each would work alittle better than both being the same? like a 272in and a 280exh?

I am no mechanic, but I know the lobes on the cams open and close the valves! Dont use the words : Mechanic and what do cams do? in the same sentence.
Isn't that like "I am a surgeon, but dont know how to cut anyone open"jk

I have heard the 264's/272's are the combination to have, and actually work better that the strait up 272/272 package. I bought the 280's thinking bigger is better (thats what my wife says), but they are better for dragracing, the 272-264's for autox. I really cant help on this, but the TRUE racers go with the 264/272's. I dont even know which is for intake, and which is for exhaust. Good luck!
p.s. dont be offended by my wise cracks, its the medications/Starbucks combo!

If you want all out power go with 280 and if you care about idle at all go 264. I have 280s and wouldn't change a thing.

I just thinks it kicks you in the butt harder. I got the TME turbo with the titanium allow internals and the hotside put on at the SAME TIME, so actually I dont know if the "kick" is the turbo, or the cams. the whole package hits harder. I wish I could help you more on this question, sorry

yes but the question is about 272/280 not 272/272 or 280/280 or even 264/272. I am curious as well about the 272/280 set up. I had 272/272 and didnt mind the idle. I plan on doing 50/50 auto x and drag so 272/280 sounds perfect but ahvent heard much about the combination.

exactly, i haven't really heard of anyone using the combination, and i honestly don't even know if it could work. if anyone knows anyone or has heard of anyone using a 272/280 combo, please fill me in on how it performs! if it works good, it will be what i will use, i just don't have the money to "experiment" with it. lol
