Alky Wiring Problems

Well I was working on the car tonight hoping to finish wiring the SMC Alky Kit. I got everything hooked up and turned the car on and the the ARMED light was on but the LOW LEVEL light seemed a bit dim. The ARMED light is bright but the LOW LEVEL light is really dim in contrast almost to point where I cant see it unless it is really dark. I pressed the TEST button and the pump seemed to be working, as I could hear it working and there was fluid coming out of it. The SPRAY light however did not come on probably since it wasnt hooked up to the jet so the pressure didnt build up. But does anyone have any ideas about this? Is the controller not getting enough power or something wrong with the controller?

( Oh btw the power source is the windshield wiper fuse. )

if your sure the low level light is on but just very dim then I would think your led light is busted. contact SMC and ask for a exchange.

Are you sure that your grounding points are good?

Where should I ground them to?
Right now I have the bottle ground to the brackets that held the intercooler spray bottle in place and the controller ground underneath the steering column. I thought as long as it was touching metal it should be ok.

I think the upper bracket for the spray bottle is okay because it's metal on metal, but you shouldn't use one of the ones where the plastic attaches to metal (and the directions point this out).

I grounded mine under the dash with the grounding bolt that's to the left of the hood release on the body of the car. You want to ground in places that are solidly connected to the chassis of the car.

I grounded it near the steering column it seemed like it was metal to metal.

I ground mine directly to the battery terminal.
Just add-on a longer ground wire so it would reach. this way there won't be any grounding issues.

by the way, what pressure are you guys seeing when hitting the 'test' button?

Well i think my grounds are fine since I tested many locations and the Armed light would shut off if it wasnt grounded with metal on metal. The kit works as i tested it and the car bogs and the spray lite comes on. Maybe just the LED is busted or low level sensor isnt working.

I had the same problem with my low level sensor not working. I think it was the mechanism in the tank that was stuck thats why no matter what I did my low level light would not go on. The first time I tried the unit everything worked fine but after sitting in on the shelf for a few months the light stopped working so I knew something was stuck or I hooked up the unit wrong. I took the tank out and poured out the fluids and shook the tank like crazy in all directions. Poured some water to test and the low level light turned on give that a try... if not then maybe your sensor is busted. good luck
