OIL pressure problem?!!

ok well everytime my engine drops below 2k rpms my oil pressure light come's on... I have done a compression test and it was perfect.. What other things can lead to this issue? Also when I get on the throttle at 5k rpms it feels like my engine is hitting 10k rpm's alot of vibration and feedback in the pedal... Is this related?

... yes I checked the oil

This may be totally un-related but I noticed my turbo has about .3" of play going in and out not up and down... could this be causing any problem's?

^^ Yup.

Use a mechanical gauge not a digital one.

Seen a couple of DSM's with high HP's that wore out oil pumps.

Ok so if my oil pressure is dropping @2k and under, my oil pump is going bad? Is there anything else that could be causing the problem?

play in your turbo will not cause low oil pressure below 2000 rpm, so you don't need to worry about that. Well, actually, that's too much play for the turbo, but it's not causing the oil pressure problems

How many miles on the oil pump? Sounds like it's worn out, or your bypass valve may be sticking open. Either way, it's going to cost more in labor than the part itself if it is the oil pump. It would be cheap insurance to put a new pump in if you go as far as pulling the original pump. If you're close to the 60,000 mile checkup, when you do your timing belts, you should do it all now!

if that light has been commming on frequently...its likly that you allready fried your bearings...if they havnt gone yet, then they are well on there way...i've blown bearings twice in my motor due to oil pump failure...

doubtful, your bearings are probably fine. The good news, you have higher oil pressure (i.e. the light goes out) when you need it, at higher rpms and higher engine load.

Could be a faulty electronic connection or sensor. 21k is very early for an oil pump to go out. It may be worth a check. I do not know where the oil pressure sensor is on the EVO, but if it's easy to get to, I'd replace it. Probably $150 or so.

LIFER ,

Put a oil pressure gauge first and let us know what it reads at idle and 2K rpm's.

It could be as simple as a oil pressure switch going bad.

Were just assuming it's an oil pump but won't know for sure until we get readings.

A friend of mine had this same problem in his evo. He set the ems to idle at 2000rpm, but later on blew his motor from low oil pressure. So be careful.

Be careful about that oil presure. My car is now out until I get around to a rebuild - the oil presure dropped out while I was just cruising down the freeway. To be fair the car has seen quite a bit of hard use (lots of track days), but only has about 38K on it. My mods are not all that far from yours.

Unhappy

Drain your oil and check it for bearing shavings. If you see any copper shavings your screwed.
