engine rattles when I shut off the ignition

These past two days when I shut the car down my engine makes a rattling noise and shakes more than before. Sounds a bit like those old cars when you shut them off and kind of has a clunky sound...but of course not that bad. BTW this has happened before about a few months back......

I had the same problem, it turned out to be a loose motor mount.

if it happens once in awhile then I dont think it has anything to do with loose motor mounts

I'd check the rubber on the engine mount. They are know to crack on older cars.

could be the throw out bearing. Myn does the same. Next time you shut the car off, shut it off with the clutch pushed down and see if it still makes the noise.

I had a rattle and thought it was my engine but it turned out to be the insides of my high flow cat. Removed insides and now have a straight pipe

ill try that clutch thing next time but I dont think its the clutch because this morning some weird stuff happened today. On the way to work when I pulled out the driveway I noticed the engine was making wierd clanking noises in 1st gear going very slow at around 1-2k rpm. At very low rpms you can hear somethings not right with the engine or transmission.... could be the clutch bearing? Drove it for about 5 minutes and decided to turn off the engine. When I turned off the engine something else inside was still running for like a split second ...seems like a engine part inside was still rotating to a stop. Drove the car for 15 minutes to work and all the problems went away.. could it be some kind of cold engine issue? Still confused cause it has never done this before... it felt like my car was falling apart.

yeah i have the same problem sometimes and it sounds like a clutch/flywheel component. If i didnt know about the TOB i'd assume its the flywheel thats making the noise.
