Question TD05HR-16G6-10.5T New for 06??

I've read on this board that the new Evo IX has a new turbo, but the Mitsubishi web-site says it has the TD05HR-16G6-10.5T in it. Isn't this the same turbo that was in all the 05 Evos?

Dont forget that this company also claims the IX is producing 286 hp but we all know this to be incorrect. LOL

No the 06s have a larger compressure housing than the 05s. I called mitsu to price a 06 turbo ($1799 BTW). The part # is different from the 05s.

Which year has the TD05HR-16G6-10.5T? And what is the other turbo number?

2005. Not sure what you mean by "turbo number."

The '06 Evo 9 uses a new variant of the 16G that uses a larger compressor housing and a titanium/magnesium impeller wheel. The 10.5 hotside was carried over from the '05's, but the turbo is deffinetly different. This accounts for some of the power increase and power curve over the '05 Evo 8 in addition to having MIVEC.

do you plane on getting this turbo? Upgrading the stock turbo is NOT worth the money unless your just getting the 10.5 otherwise WR, 20G, TME IMO is just spending $1k for 20whp

So the only difference is a larger comp cover and materials used to make it?

I have the opportunity to buy this turbo TD05HR-16G6-10.5T. I’m told it’s from a 2005 Evo. The Mitsubishi web-site states that it’s the same turbo that’s in the 06 or at least it’s the same turbo number. I’m just trying to figure out my options and the value of this thing.

Having the lighter impeller wheel allows the turbo to spool much more quickly. There is a video around somewhere showing the '06 turbo next to the '05 turbo, but I don't know where to find it.

The larger compressor cover and the wheel inside it is different. Bushur is using the EVO 9 compressor cover on on one version of the 20G. It was posted that it help rid it of the small surging issues the EVO 8 20G was having.
