SFI Certifications
SFI Certifications
So now that I am on my race legal kick. How do I get the SFI certifications for things like the flywheel, the scatter shield, the cage, etc. Is it just something the tech inspector does the first time they really check? I think thats how it is with cages but I dont see how to get it for the flywheel and whatnot.
The flywheel will come with an SFI certification sticker from the manufacturer. Same with the scattersheild. If it didn't come with it, it's not SFI. Scattershields have specifications for material/size/contruction/attachment for applications that no SFI certified item exists. Threespeed Scattershields conform to the NHRA rules, but are not SFI certified. your good to go if it's 3Speed.
If you still have the ACT clutch...it has the sticker righton the PP. not like a tech inspector is going to look.
The cage if it's 9.99 legal, you need to make an appointment for chassis cert inspections at your NHRA track in the spring. They ususally do it a few times a year at each track. NHRA will send an inspector to the track to do a bunch of cars at the same time.

SFI certification comes from the manufacturer as he said. Here is a link to a little info on our site with a link to SFI too:

Clutch and flywheel: I saw on another thread what happened to your ACT clutch. Man that was cooked! I assume you were considering the Tilton. I know Tilton was negotiating with SFI regarding their carbon clutch design since it doesn't meet the existing requirements. I don't know if Tilton is the point of participating with SFI certification or not but they were working toward it last I heard. It is not much fun sending good parts off to be destroyed every two years. Regardless, their parts are safe. But if they don't have that little sticker, technically they are illegal, if you are running under 12 sec.
Belhousing... Good luck! That has been the biggest problems IMO. It is not like you are going to find anyone to make a Titanium or 1/4" thick steel belhousing for the EVO. It is just not very practical. Most tracks have been turning a blind eye to some regulations since they realize parts are just not available.

Thanks for the info guys!
The scattershield is a threespeed, I did have the ACT clutch but, as you saw... it got cooked. I now have a quartermasters twin disk. I guess it seems that doesnt matter too much though. As for the cage.. I wont be hitting 9s anytime soon but I do want to make sure I am legal for solid 10's. I guess it seems they are pretty leanient when it comes to this stuff so I assume Ill be good. I just dont want to run into the run it twice a day type problem.

I make the scattersheilds out of titanium as a special order.
However the price is not cheap, due to material cost but the shield weighs half of what the 1/4" stainless steel model does, if that is important to you.
