I've had a lot of cars in my years of driving (more years than most of you have lived) and the Evo is the first I've had that absolutely demands that you get the clutch ALL THE WAY IN before you shift.

Mine is an '03 and I noticed this at first; after about six botched shifts under power, it didn't happen again, once I discovered this.

Stomp that left pedal to the floor when you shift!

I've had the same problem with mine since day one. usually when I'm roppin on it clutch is fully engaged and still grinds away, I've been driving stick since 16 and I'm no spring chicken now. mines an 03 tsbs on the 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th shifts, but my problem has always been 2nd gear grinding, maybe i'm one of the unlucky ones also but starting to hear a whine out of the trans or tc, but i do have almost 41k on the stock clutch still with a stg 2 ams

Buy a motor bushing from Mike at Forge, and pick up a set of 2pc under hood bushings and be prepared to bang 2nd with no probs at 8k. Some also use engine torque dampeners as well. The not going into gear is caused by the motor rocking due to really crappy stock motor mounts.

same on my 03 as well...Ultimate Credit Card is right...those mods will help to avoid misshifting 2nd. I cant even count how many times i've misshifted second..people thought I couldn't drive. It was frustrating. even after misshifting i would go WOT agian and make SURE i was shfiting it right. nope, wont matter i stomp the crap outta the clutch and shift and it wont go in...

That's actually been happening to me too. Only when i shift fast.. It seems to help if i pull the shift to the left as I'm pulling it down. Pulling it down and in towards me. Give that a try and see if it helps.

Has anyone tried using a different transmission fluid?

I had that problem when I first got the car too. turned out it was my Gangsta-Style sitting way back. Pull the seat up close and you'll be fine. Oh yeah that is also helped fro mthe engine TQ damper.

Exactly what happens to my 03. It's embarrassing when friends want you to show off the car and you keep grinding that damn 2nd gear. Over 2yrs, I've been through Pennzoil tranny fluid, BG Synchroshift tranny fluid, underhood bushings, and shifter bushings. None of those FIX anything. The fluids temporarily fixed it for a couple weeks, but the grinds came back. The bushings only helped the feeling of the shifting, but did nothing in regards to fixing the mechanical problems.

NOW, can a bunch of people confirm to me that these motor mounts actually FIX this 2nd gear problem before I go out and get another hype mod?

The motor mounts that buschur is releasing will solve the problem entirely but with lots of vibration most likely. The front bushing will cut the motor from rocking significantly. If you add a engine torque dampener to that you will have a great combo to keep shifts nice and smooth.

i dont know if this is relevant to the topic, but i heard about act clutches locking drivers out of gear when shifting at high rpms during aggressive driving..

Slow your shifting down. The cable actuated shifter can only move so fast. I think it has to do with the laws of physics.
