First, the 4A20 does not share the same mounts as the 4G63 AND the 4G64 (2.4L Galant/Eclipse engine) You might want to rethink that...

And how much do you think you can get the EVO 8 engine for when the car is spanking new???

Based on one local guy (a shop I know), the 2.0 GS cannot accept the Mitsu engines without re-doing the motor/tranny mounts. He claimed they're closed, but not identical....However, on the 4G64 powered Eclipse, it's a different story...since they're the same family engines with the 4G63

I think you are in for a few surprises if you want to swap for an Evo motor................first things first..........the motor is backwards. the eclipse motor has the serpentine belt on the drivers side, whereas the Evo Serpentine is on the passenger side. so your motor mounts and pretty much everything else has to be changed. secondly is your hood. there is a "bubble" on the drivers side(if I'm not mistaken) of the hood to clear the the cam gear cover. so you would somehow need to fabricate one on the passenger side to clear that cam gear cover. so, as you can see, I think it's going to be more indepth than you may realize. but anything is possible with the right amount of patience, but most of all, the right amount of money. GOOD LUCK man ! ! ! ! !

This is a terrible idea, and will not work without more money invested than your car is worth.

I don't think its worth it either. Your better off getting the 1G or a Evo 3 4G63, cost wise, if your actually going to do the swap.

Basically all the other posts are giving you common sense advice. Swaping in a motor that does not have an increase in displacement is pretty much ludicrous. You have many other options.

You can build the 420A with forged pistons and upgraded rods for less than you could fabricate all the mounts for the 4G63 EVO. Plus the transmission and running a custom driveshaft to the back with more custom rear diff. ALL HEADACHES!!

Build the 420A, turbo it, and you will be able to smoke EVO's at the drag strip, but not at the road course.

I was talking about the Cyclone/EVO I-III 4G63 (1st phase), which face the same way as the DSM's 4G63...

yeah might be a better idea to build up what you got. Or like other people have said start with a 1st gen. eclipse/talon with a 4g63, a swap might be easier. Also if you were to swap with the 420A wouldnt you also need a new AWD drive train? Good luck

Add into the equation that the rear chassis needs to be modiefied a LOT in order to install the rear differential and suspension components!! Just build the 420A and turbocharge it with a Hahn Stage 2 kit.

Go to www.dsmtalk.com and do a search on there about doing the swap... I think you will find more than enough threads that say don't waste the time and money and just buy a car that already came with a 4g63 instead.
