I love nitrous on my evo. I will not launch my car without it. I am running a NX twin stage kit. 50 off the line and another 50 in 2nd gear, but my stock ignition
will not burn the second stage even with my plugs gapped at .20.

That could be promising.
Interesting yes, promising I am not so sure.
Because of the properties of methanol and it's ability to asorb heat, you would be spraying so much meth to go along with the nitrous quantity I think you will have problems burning the methanol on stock compression and low boost pressures of a stock turbo.

Here is your answer... tell me the two fastest DSM cars in the world (John Shepherd and Brent Rau). Now, answer what type of fuel the two cars run (Methanol). Now answer do they spray Nitrous (Yes). Seems kinda funny how the two fastest cars do exactly what you say. Yes, it is a good combo

I think timcatz was refering to them being used on the stock turbo and stock ignition. Those guys are running very very hig cylinder pressures and have alot of spark to help the burn along.

Yes, he is talking about the two fastest drag cars, I am talking about gasoline substitution on an resonably stock car. He can't change his static pressure and has limited boost levels. On the drag cars they can design the setup with Methanol in mind.

Ok, from this thread it seems like Nitrous is a viable option on the Evo. My question is why aren't more people spaying and why do tuners (like Al) have such a problem with it?

I wil be spraying but I probably won't get tuned till January sometime. I won't have track results till the spring. I haven't purchased a kit yet but working on that now.

How much is everyone spraying on the stock turbo and all that? It seems like alot of people are doing 50 shots?

It seems like 50 shots are the way to go without pushing anything too much. There are some running 75 shots though.

The reason people dont use it much is because of the stigmatism associated with it. It is ALWAYS viewed as 'cheating'. It is by far the cheapest HP you could get it. The other reason is people are deathly afraid of the stuff even though it is plenty safe if installed and used properly.

Tuners dont have any problems with Nitrous (In fact most of the fast cars do use it). I guess Al has a problem with it, PM and ask him what it is but it doesnt seem anyone else has a problem with it.

I agree with you, the stigmatism is mostly in the import market. Most people in the domestic market who drag race have no problems with nitrous use. What other mod can take a full second off your time for so little money.

I wasn't picking on Al, I just know that he is pretty much against it. I just feel that throughout the EvoM community there is no love for nitrous. Im really just trying to figure the reason why that is.

So i guess my real question is it safe? Figure a 50 shot on a mildy tuned street car (Bolt ons - 0 engine work).

Its all in the tune like anything. An EVO can hold a 50 shot no prob. People push the stock motor with GT35rs and a 50 shot is nothing in comparison to the stress that puts on the motor.
