Nitrous vs Alcohol
I started reading up on alcohol inection as it has become pretty popular recently. I thought I was rather settled on the idea of the Buschur kit and Al's flash until I began talking to Darin of Titan Motorsports (he tunes their amazing Supra). We got on the subject of alcohol injection and then eventually nitrous as a substitute. He didn't highly of alcohol claiming it as a bandaid, and he said he had also seen two motors pop when their alcohol pumps stopped working (one Evo, and one Supra). When we started talking about nitrous he seemed to think it was a much better solution, tried and true, and perfectly reliable when setup and tuned correctly, as a testament he told me they sprayed over 400whp worth of nitrous to their Supra.
I would really like to hear from the big tuners on this subject, and would like to keep it clear of uneducated remarks about nitrous. Thanks.

it depends on if you want the power all the time or not...i have almost 500 awhp on 93 octane and 50% water/50% alky injection ....i drive it all the time like that. No need for race gas or nos spraying/purging /expensive refills or anything. Just check the tank and fill it every 2-3 tanks of gas. I wanted a 600+ crank hp evo that i could run that way daily without going broke on race gas that i could drive daily and thats what i got. Now i am going to build the motor and run around 550 awhp on pump with injection and 650 awhp + on race gas ! But its all in what you want i guess.

i am a nitrous user....never tried the akly so i really cant compare.
but with both..there can be failures due to tuning, plugs, pumps etc
must admit though..i dont think i would ever give up on nitrous. it's like taking drugs...u can never get enough

I think when you break it down they are going to be very close reliability wise.
An alcohol setup should be slightly more expensive, as a reflash is needed, but that will eventually be cancelled out by the price of bottle fills.
While the power is always there with alcohol it would still need some supporting mods to make the power of nitrous, but it isn't there all the time.
I guess it really does come down to if I want the power all the time.
This my daily driver, which I do take to the track ocassionaly. Could anyone make a suggestion either way?

well I'm fully built now.
keep in mind that I when i Just got the car I used nitrous for about a year on the stock engine, stock turbo (75 shot)...all i had then was 3inch exhaust, apexi safc and a boost controller.
The car did an 11.7 pass with just those mods.
i used race gas though...and once the tune on the apexi is good...u would have absolutely no problems.

That will be very close to my setup, I may only run a 50 shot though.
What kit did you use?
I think one thing that scares me about the alcohol is that if the pump does fail, there are no safety features in place, and the engine will detonate until it's done. Atleast with nitrous I can run a fuel pressure safety switch that will kill the nitrous if the fuel solenoid fails.

I would recommend the alcohol. I have been using AMS' kit, they use a huge pump that is made by Aklycontrol, who has been making alcohol kits for a long time, and are very experienced. I would definately recommend alcohol for an upgraded turbo car. Just my two cents

For an extra kick, you could use the injector to spray some nitromethane. If you wanted to get even more kick, you could set up another injector with a smaller jet to inject hydrogen peroxide along with the nitro. You may, however, only get one chance to get the mix correct.

If I installed a pressure switch onto the alcohol pump and it engaged thus killing the pump completely because it sensed a lower pressure then my engine would detonate like crazy and be done for. Stupid idea.
The only way that would work would be for the pressure switch to kill power to the ECU or something so that the engine stops cycling completely.
Any other ideas?
