Is Compressor Surge/Flutter Inevitable?

Well I've been adjusting my Greddy RS BOV and noticed:

No matter how loose I go I will get Flutter at Partial Throttle (anything lower than 0 Bar on the Boost Guage) and the Boost Leaks slightly ( Fluctuates 1.4-1.6 Bar) at WOT.

If its I adjust tight on the BOV then the Bosst hold 1.6 Bar WOT but Flutters at about 0.4 (Full Throttle) Bar and lower (Partial Throttle)

Question is, the Compressor surge is normal at partial throttle? and if so Should I just find the sweet spot between the 2 scenarios above?

First of all, that is not compressor surge, your BOV is just too tight. I'm afraid that the BOV you have choosen is just not up to the job. This horse has been beaten to death. The best solution for lightly modded evo's is the JDM MR BOV or the Evo IX valve. If you want to he the sound, then get the APS half recirc/ half VTA. I've heard forge has improved their product but I really don't have experience with it. Anything else is just crap. Sorry.

Search. Last time I checked, evom had no shortage of BOV threads.

I agree with QAT-R the Greddy RS is not a very good BOV. I had it on my MR and it would constantly flutter no matter I how I adjusted it. I just bought and installed the new Agency Power BOV which you can vent 50/50 or full recirc. Right now I'm 100% recirc. and no flutter at all but then again its only been 2days since I had this new BOV

ya that is compressor surge 1) make sure its hooked up the right way discharge end either to atmosphere or intake. 2) also make sure its not to tight. 3) you might have to change your driving habbits. let off quicker, build more boost then let off, etc. sorry for the bad news i went through the same thing i got a gretty type s

I didn't have an RS but I had a type S that worked well after I did the single spring mod. Not sure if it applies to the RS. Check out the thread on BOVs by silver surfer, very good info there.

did you even try the single spring mod? Many people have gotten their type s to work well with it, including myself.

i'm slightly there, not 100% though, it's better than the forge unit that it's replacing, but if i set the spring towards stiff, flutter up top at partial throttle, if i set it soft, i get flutter down low at 0 and low boost.

still playing around with it, curious to know what kinda settings everyone else is runnin. 50/50 is pretty loud, fun for a little while, but loud, most likely will be 100% recirc'n

I just got my APS Bov yesterday and all my problems are gone. I was having similar problems as you with the JDM MR for some time.
