The front diff is a helical Torsen type, but the center diff still uses spider gears in an open differential type configureation with the ACD acting as the limited slip unit correct? Those were the gears I was refering too. If I am incorrect please speak up

driving into the shop.
from this tutorial https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=131349 in how-tos i see that they only removed the cover of the TC to reveal the factory diff. while the assembly was still in the car. which makes me think it shouldn't cost a gazzillion space bux? i know replacing the whole tranny in my teg cost $350 labor, and they had to remove all kinds of ish.

Nope, you're dead on!

I thought you were talking about the front diff, sorry.

From your description it sounds like you're talking about the ACD unit, since Cusco makes LSD's and not carrier assemblies with spider gears, etc. I just want to be as clear as possible

- Steve
Not exactly sure steve, but i believe it was cusco #lsd449f which is about $1500

If you buy the Quaife unit then that tutorial can be followed and it can be installed with the TC in the car. If you call a competant shop that is willing to do the install in that fashion then it shouldn't cost a ton of money. (Should be less than they quote you for a clutch job) But try to remember, an Integra is a lot easier car to drop a tranny out of than an Evo. I know this by experience.

That's a part number for a Limited Slip Unit as best as I can tell from searching Cusco's website. So my guess would be that he was breaking the ACD unit and replacing it with this LSD. That doesn't mean that Cusco doesn't also include a new Center Diff carrier assembly.... I just don't know.

gotcha. yea, after looking at clutch tutorial for the evo, it looks a lot more involved, especially wrestling the whole thing out and back in while trying to clear all the surroundings without scraping. teg's tranny/diff assembly is more compact and manageable to rotate around.
i'm thinking of having this done in a couple of years or so. so how much is too much for a quaiffe front lsd?

In a couple years???? Ok....

Right now, a reasonable price to pay is exactly what they sell for.... RRE sells them for $1475

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/e...e-moreinfo.htm

The other option is dropping the whole TC and sending it to TRE www.teamrip.com to have a ralliard LSD installed. They charge $1000 installed, but then you have the labor of dropping the TC and the downtime. The choice is yours.

thanks Steve. yea couple of years i'm keeping it stock for now (i know, i'm very patient), have other priorities, but when i get really tired of understeer on corner exits, it'll be just in time for that front LSD.

That explains it.... but aren't there some versions of the JDM Evo that don't have S-AYC? I wonder if their controllers can be made to work.

I thought that all of the JDM/European Evos with ACD also had AYC.

That is exactly what I did and I have absolutely no regrets. They are one of the premier Mitsubishi/DSM aftermarket parts shops/mechanics in the country.

JDM/Euro Evo RS's do not have AYC. Their rear diff is the same as ours.
