"turning up the boost"

my AMS stage 3 was recently street tuned and the MBC just happened to be set to 18psi when tuned. Could I simply turn the boost up to 23psi or will I have to retune?

thanks in advance!

A 5psi change in boost would typically require a retune. I don't see how the AFRs and timing could be optimized if you turn it up 5psi and were tuned at 18psi. What tuning device was used?

if you are just using the AFC, then that's super easy to "retune"...

OH, then just go outside and retune it. No problem - that's why you have an S-AFC - so that you can retune whenever you change mods, boost, and/or octane.

Oh, oops. You didn't tune it yourself from the beginning then, eh? The point of an S-AFC is to be able to tune it yourself, otherwise it's not very useful. Paying someone to tune an S-AFC for you is really icky, because you get more from a flash for the same price. I personally used an S-AFC for a while before getting a flash, and now I fine-tune on top of the flash with my S-AFC when using race gas. If you're not doing your own tuning, you should consider an alternative tuning device, preferably a flash of some sort.

I would not recommend going out and adding or removing fuel randomly. You need a wideband O2 to read the AFRs and a logging device to read timing. Both of those parameters need to be tuned together along with boost all at the same time.

Are you saying that when i go to get my 1st flash in the next week or so, i can use my SAFC to adjust for race if i so choose? I was under the impression that i'd need to reflash or have a piggy back with more maps run race gas? Until i just read your post, i wasn't going to even buy an SAFC II and just stick with my DynoFlash. But now.... hmmmm??

Nah, man, it's a perfect setup. A lot of us do this. You just get your custom flash for pump gas, then when you use race gas, you can turn up the boost and adjust the S-AFC to account for the higher octane. You still need to have monitoring devices to watch your AFRs and timing, but you can definitely make good gains this way. The S-AFC is a piggyback, and if you have the SAFC II, then it also has 2 maps in case you need to use them.

I only have the S-AFC I, which only has one map, but I just adjust the settings accordingly. I make MINOR SAFC adjustments on top of my base flash just to fine-tune according to the time of year, then more significant adjustments when on race gas. Start with the flash, then use the S-AFC on top of it for race gas if you want to go that route...
