throttle body is sticking.

Lately when I take my foot off the gas then get back on it the TB has been sticking. Its making driving kind of a PITA because first gear and light throttle isn't smooth like it used to be.

At first I thought it was just the throttle cable getting caught up but when I move the TB by hand I can feel it sticking. Is there anyway to lube up the butterfly valve on the TB?

Anyone else have this problem? if so how did you fix it?

Double check the cable and make sure it isn't getting stuck. It's very unlikely that the butterfly valve itself is the culprit.

Even when you move the TB by hand, the cable is still being pulled thru the movement. Sometimes its even minuscule things such as the driver's side carpet riding up the floor-board and catching the pedal.

as I mentioned above its not the cable, I can disconnect it from the TB and it still is hard to move by hand.

Check to make sure the throttle plate is centered when the throttle is closed.

Carbon build-up in the TB.

Clean it out with Throttle Body cleaner. Also maybe scrub it out with a toothbrush.

do you have to remove the throttle body to do so?

dude. what the hell is that all about? all i had was a simple question. i searched and didn't find the answer. and the reason i had the question was two-fold. one: the threads i found leaned towards not having to remove it and two: i had to do this same thing on an rsx and had to remove the whole tb, disassemble it, and clean it all seperately. so its not a question of knowledge or capability. its just adhearing to the "do it right the first time" theory. so basically stop wasting bandwidth by posting useless comments. there is no need for them.

be careful when cleaning the tb, as mitsu applies a abradable coating to help seal the blade to the body when in the full closed postion. They do this to get a better control of idle. So be careful not to remove this coating, if you already have......maybe the iac can take care of it, if not, close your biss screw a bit/idle air screw.

after cleaning the tb, make sure the blade is centered, using a few feeler gauge blades (0.0015" / 0.002") & verify the screws are tight. When i take apart tb's to modify them, i can not get over how many tb's have screws that are not very tight / on the loose side!!

good luck

I do have the same issue. I've done a boost leak check as well and I found out that the TB was leaking pretty bad.
The shaft seals are bad on my car. Many people have changed the seals with very good results and a smoother ride. It may be the cause of your hassle.

The shaft seals are destroyed which may cause the shaft to not slip well into the bores of the TB.
