cams: HKS 264/272 vs. 272/272

I'm planning on installing cams so i was wondering what the difference in low-mid range power there would be between 264/272 or 272/272's???? Does anyone have dyno graphs for these two cam setups??

you want 264/272 if you are concerned with low midrange power....272's will bring you better top end results.

Just go with the 272s, if not 280s. It's been said before, you don't lose any low-end power.

I have 264/272 setup. it gives me good mid and acceptable high range. If you are going for pure drag style performance, I have no dought that 280s will give you the most power because you won't see anything lower than 5.5k rpm after the first gear. But, for street drivers like me, 264/272 is really good for 3.5k~6k. you feel the power very early. you can show the power to annoying cars in very releaxed manner. But if you have race cams, you gotta rev crazy high...kinda over kill to pass mediocre cars.

Ditto, I heard 264/264 are great for the stock turbo. Dsm'rs have been using the 264i/272e for years, it works really well thats what I have. I am going to be changing the turbo soon, so I will go 272 all the way.

there is a ams dyno cam compare done a dsm, if you take the time, you'll find it. Not really that much difference really, kind of like "picking the fly-$hit out of the pepper", you really cant tell much difference.

If you have the least bit of concern about loosing low end, city type tip-in/drivability go with the 264In/272Ex, it's a great compromise, otherwise buy some 280's & dont mess around.

fyi, I run 264's & couldnt be happier. This is my daily driver, the 264's offer better power EVERYWHERE over the stock cams. I have to take my car back to the dealer for a oil leak, so I recently put the stockers back-in.....I cant wait to swap back to the hks cams.

If you properly tune for 272/272s, you gain EVERYWHERE in the powerband over stock cams.

No loss anywhere. Gains everywhere.

thanks for all your input...unfortunately i flipped my evo on a canyon run about 3 hrs after i made the original post...booooo....

is anyone interested in buying a set of hks 272's intake and exhaust. I have the used set sitting around that i won't need anymore...$425 shipped obo. PM if you're interested...spread the word...i also have a 10.5 hotside, dnp manifold with 44mm tial external wastegate, typhoon intake, hks hi-power exhaust, avo intercooler, oil cooler return/send hoses (brand new) and 10 oil filters with gaskets sitting around that i don't need anymore...all of these parts were sitting in my garage waiting to be sold or installed with the exception of exhaust and typhoon. they're coming off my car.

I run 264/264 HKS, I really don't know what turbolag means it does not exist in my Evo, the 264/264 gives you absolutely instant spool up and boost.

It all depends on the type of driving you have, If you hate turbo lag and want good driveability in the lower and midrange then the 264/264 are great but I also read many great feedbacks on the 264/272 being the great mix. I haven't heard nothing but good things on the 272 also.

No matter what you choose, cams will help a lot.
