Heavy Boost drop. Need help.

2005 Evo 8 7k miles

Bushur 3inch TBE
Forge recirc BOV
Forge MBC
Dyno flash by Pruven

When Im going WOT at any gear @ about 6K RPM I hear a whoosh and boost falls FAST from 1.5 to 1kg.

Im not sure how far it will keep falling because I let off the throttle but I do hear a loud whoosh on the drivers side.( maybe its the bov)

Today I did a boost leak test and nothing showed up(1.6kg)

The car is good up untill 6K.

Im in NY. Thanks.

What did you do a boost leak test on? Sounds like you might have poped off an IC pipe, or blew a coupler? (i think that what they're called. The things that connect pipe to pipe?)

Hooked it up to the turbo. if I blew a pipe off, the car would run bad all the time.

I believe he is referring to the black rubber one that runs from the turbo to the air box... It's not securely fastened down somewhere maybe..

actually he is speaking of the intake snorkle that goes from the airbox to the front of the car if the two snaps are not in it can suck up against the underside of the hood. Which of corse causes the amount of air to be greatly decreased. One or both of them not there can cause this to happen. On a side not remember with the stock turbo there is a tapering that occurs even with a flash or even a Boost Controller but 1/2 a bar sounds like to much of a drop I could see a 1.6bar dropping to 1.3 bar, but from 1.5 to 1.0 sounds more like a boost leak to me, Question for you under 6k does the boost stay constant at 1.6 bar max to only drop a 6k?

I just did a search on the snorkle. Ran out to my can and the problem fixed. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Question...

TBE
MBC
Fuel Pump
Dyno flash

l tuned my car with the above mods. I didnt have a boost gauge at that time. When I got the gauge I was shocked that it would spike to ~26psi and then stay at 21 to redline(it would only taper down to 21 by like 5K rpm. It would be about 22 before that.)

I called him and he said its ok. I visited him few days ago with my boost cut problem(it was the snorkle) and he tells me Im running too much boost. WTF?????? If he tuned the car why run it so hard and let me go like that. He never has a straigh answer for me.

Now that I turned the boost down all the way(23spike 17 redline) the car feels like ****. So what was the point of this tune?????????? I put down 295AWH but the HP was falling down quick because of my BOV leaking.

The final run was 284AWH with a nice flat A/F I think 11.5.

So what should I do.

Did Al tune your car on the road tune or on the dyno? There can be different things that can change from when you where tuned to now, the weather can be a factor as well as believe it or not a tank of bad gas can change things as well. I witnessed two Evo's at a local dyno day that had cheap gas in there cars and made about 30 whp lower than ones with name brand gas. This is probably not your problem, If I where you I would call Al again or send him a PM in regards to this it might just be your gauge is off. I now I had a bad gauge that showed 3 psi higher than it really was. I finally found out when I put it on the dyno and finally got a good gauge from Defi. Best of Luck!

See, I told you what it was right away. You need to listen to good ole Warrtalon - to the point, short and sweet.

Glad it is fixed, but your tune is probably all messed up due to that. I'm not sure of all the details, but Al will take care of you now that the problem has been fixed. The way you describe your boost readings is very sketchy, so I'm not 100% certain everything is hooked up properly. If you're close by, you should be able to go back and get things sorted out now that you don't have the snorkel problem.

Oh, and what in the HAYUL were you thinking installing all that mess without a boost gauge?!?! I know that Al has his own way to read boost during the tune, but there's still no excuse for that. I should ****** you up and smack you around for that. Ok...rant off.
