gt35r with ported shroud...?

i have been looking at the gt35r with the drilled ported shroud. i was wondering whos running it, and how the boost responce is. also i heard it makes that nice loud turbo whistle like the hks t51r. also i heard there are some drawbacks with the ported shroud with responce and power, i was wondering how much of a loss it is. thanks in advance.

Um, dont know about the whistle sound. Guess you mean the sound of air going into the compressor? Yes, i for sure hear air flowing with the ported s cover. Alot more than my old 50trim with the e comp. cover. As of yet i dont know what any of these drawbacks are? If any. The reason for using the ported cover is the surge problems with this large a turbo and the regular 3in. inlet e cover. There is still surging problems with the ported shroud but not nearly as bad. The only time i see surge is in 5th gear on the highway.

evoleced4g63, is your turbo drill style ported or does it have the "double intake" style ported shroud? btw, thanks for the responce. i have an rx6 turbo kit right now, and its spools really quick. it doenst have a ported shroud on it though. from what i heard with the ported shroud you get no/less surge, and the turbo whisltes loud, but you lose some hp on high boost and get slightly slower responce. heres a link to what a t51r sounds like, they also have a ported shroud. this rx7 is running 18psi.

What your saying about ported shrouds is correct, except the whistling sound. At least mine doesn't whistle. Ported shrouds are nice on EVO's due to the high boost levels and big compressor wheels. So what is lost in peak performance is gained back w/ better driveability.

What model RX6 do you have? Do you have surge issues w/ it?

Mine is the drill style, PTE. But i'm with jj, i have no clue as to what you are saying about whistling noises? There is less surge with my current setup than with the plain "e" comp. cover. With teh e cover on a 35r you would most likely see surging in 4 and 5th gears, staring a pull in the low rpms. Maybe even third depending on conditions. Now i only see some in 5th.
