Oil leak easy question
First off sorry for the crap picture no matter what i did i got that stupid glare and i have a real nice nikon camera. I have others i can post if this one isnt clear to you guys. Anyways, here is a picture of my oil leak near the oil filter it seems to be on the oil housing line going to and from the oil cooler. A friend told me the bolt is called a banjo bolt and he thinks the washer is just crushed causing the leak. I guess the first thing i have to ask is this common because this has never been tampered with or losened. Second what size is that washer and how do you take that bolt off. Is it like any other bolt just using a hand tool and take it off, slide a new washer in. I guess doing that will drop oil out but will it come out in a fast pace or slow drip? There is another oil line next to this one that has oil on it but not much i think its just from this one leaking crap on it. Anyways yes i have cams and i check around the valve cover and found no oil residue even down the sides and any where from the top view of the engine bay. Should i take this to get it fixed at a local shop or handle it myself?

It looks like the leak is above where you think it is leaking from, be sure to inspect closely before you try and replace the crush washer. I have seen a few cars with oil that collects there leak from the back of the head. You can check usually by reaching up and inspecting the intake manifold support bracket. It will usually have oil on it as well if it is leaking from the back of the head.
My first question is, have you replaced the stock head studs?

How many miles are on your car? I have seen instances where banjo bolts were not tight enough from the factory, and the crush washers were not crushed, that resulted in oil leaks. Have you checked the torque on that bolt?

I had the same type of oil leak, it would drip from the exact same place as yours. It took me a while to figure out where it was coming from but finally realized it was coming from the back of the valve cover and running down the back of the block.
I also doubt very much that its coming form your oil cooler line...

Where ever the oil leak is at it will be clean. It will not look like oil it will uses the cleaning agents that are in the oil to clean away that spot. Look up further untill you see a spot where it is cleaned away and then goes to and oil based leaky look.

the verdict with the dye leak test was that the oil filler was loose causing a majority of the leak and also a crank shaft seal leak...he said it wasnt major nothing to worry about ....he said 90% of the problem was the oil filler or might of been 99%...but gave the warning that the crank shaft seal could cause a proglem in the future...then went on to say you he had to sit there a stare at it forever under the black light to even see the leak in the crank shaft..what you guys think about that?
Man I have the same exact thing.. I've been monitoring it for a few months now.. No major leakage or anything.. just looks like I may need a new oil cooler hose :| Mine appears to be in the hose under the protective layer..
