new EVO TO MUCH OIL ADDED

I just bought a new evo and put 400 miles on it. I recently checked the oil and found it to be 1 quart above the max line. Is this bad for the car or does one quart make a difference?

1 quart is a bit much, you would have to worry about it squirting out your dipstick under too much pressure/heat with hard driving.. other than that I don't believe that haveing too much will hurt the car... just be messy

This goes back to my V8 days.. But too much oil can have several problems.. First, it could leak from several locations like the rear seal, oil pan (gasket), and it could be pumped out of the dipstick opening.. However the most harmful thing is if its too high the crankshaft could splash around in it, it has two bad effects, adding air to the oil (airation and foaming) which could obviously affect the lubrication factor, also you'd see fluctuations in your oil pressure.. and two, it can rob the engine of horsepower from the crank splashing in the oil..

Now, with regard to being a quart OVERFILLED.. one or so quarts too much probably will not be enough to be harmful, the worst that could happen is a little bit of oil coming out the dipstick tube if the oil level covers the opening of the tube's base, because crankcase pressure would then force the oil out. However I doubt that.

just loosen the oil filter and let the oil drain out or the filter, you may need to do this a couple of times but it is easier than trying to drain one quart out of the oil pan drain plug
