5.5 quarts of oil??

Ok, flame away if you must...but I had to take the evo in to a local oil change place today. I usually do all my oil changes myself, but a friend did my last one and somehow between us both the drain plug bolt head got rounded off. I was unable to get it off so I gave up and took it somewhere.

I gave the man my filter and case of oil. He returned the car to me with only .5 quart left. So that means there is 5.5 quarts of oil in my car atm. I've always put right under 5 quarts in. How bad is this? Should I drain it all out and start again?

He probably just stole a quart of your oil.

Pull the filter, that will help off set the difference. Depending on how large the filer is you might have to do it 2-3 times. When you are done put a new filter on it.

Well start by checking the oil level before you do anything.

A pipe wrench will work to loosen the plug. It is messy but if overfull you can just pull the plug and stick it back in. Check the dipstick first. The amount of oil required depends on the amount that drains and the size of the filter. Still, using a large filter I've never needed more than five quarts to bring it to full on the dipstick.

i'd check the oil level first before you do anything...you can tell if you have too much oil just by looking at it.

Yea, there are no markers on my dipstick either. Just 2 notches. The level is showing to be above both notches.

Shouldn't it be in between the notches?

Hmm, so according to that, Im about 1/2 - 3/4 of a quart too full.

Gotta love those folks at the corner oil change places. When I pulled in he asked me what kind of Mazda it was And then freaked out when the car didnt turn off when he turned the ignition off. I had to explain to him what a turbo timer was

Good times

Yea definetly between (or right in the middle of) the parallel lines /notches. above the top line is definetly no good.

I just have a gray faded strip for a marker.

what a joke.
