Yea you dont want too much oil for a long period of time because if you have too much then the crankshaft will hit the oil and cause bubbles in your oil then some parts in your engine wont get lubricated correctly and can cause damage.

Best way I found out to drain it is to loosen the bolt all the way from the pan and just hold it up against the pan. Then slowly angle and pull the bolt just a few mm away from the pan.

This makes me laugh, the entire thread.

I would be somewhat insulted if someone (who worked at a car shop of some sort) asked what kind of "Mazda" the Evo was...

Yeah this does work the best. I did not even get my hands dirty. I think it also works better if your car is cold. The oil is thicker and flows more slowly out so it is easier to control.

Well, I do live in a small town. As far as I know, I am the only EVO in this town. And there is only one other in the town nearby. So the oil change guy had probably never seen one before.

I would go back and make the place that did the oil change drain some out. It happened to me once along time ago before I did my own oil changes. When I went back and complained they changed the oil again and filled it correctly the next time.

Most likely the mechanic just went by a shop capacity guide or by the owner's manual, which if you add everything up...it claims to hold somewhere around 5.5-5.8 quarts. He must not have checked it afterwards or was just too lazy to drain some out when he overfilled it. I think the fact that it holds less than what the book says, has something to do with not all of the oil draining from the oil cooler...not sure though.

Dont over tighten the drain bolt this time. And use a new crush washer.

Gotta love those folks at the corner oil change places. When I pulled in he asked me what kind of Mazda it was And then freaked out when the car didnt turn off when he turned the ignition off. I had to explain to him what a turbo timer was

Good times
i definitely wouldnt have let whoever that was touch my car... you must be very brave
