I don't thing that it is a matter of the 280s "kicking-in" around 6000 rpms. Put 280s on your car, and I doubt you'd fare much better.

With the modifications that you have made to your head and intake, you are most likely flowing far too much air for the stock turbo in the upper rpms, especially at 26 psi. Basically you're overspooling your turbo, which makes it less efficient, which is probably why your friend is pulling on you past 6K rpms. A small turbo upgrade such as the White Rabbit or 20g-9 turbo should take care of the power drop past 6K.

It also could be as simple as cam gears settings. Too bad you don't know your own settings.
