Question is this clutch slippage or what???

I have a evo VIII 03 with 24,000 miles and Ive been having this problem latly. When i hit the gas my car goes to about 4 grand and then drops to about 3800, lags for a little and then takes off. i dont think i have a boost leak i watch the boost gauge and it seems right. My friend said it was the cluth but i dont think thats right cuz it doenst slip and i can launch it still pretty good. I changed the plugs and put a walbro fuel pump in. Another friend said it was my coil pack or something with ignition. Any answers im stunned on what it is?????????

If it is falling off of RPM it sounds like how my car did right when my clutch began its death march. That isn't much of an RPM drop though...it could be something else, but I would probably hope for a clutch issue vs. having to deal with the dealer over electronic issues. Good Luck.

So...if it is going to 4k without slipping, I wouldn't think it's a clutch? If it is dropping back to 3800, that could be something else. That's a wierd sympton though, it sounds like a clutch slip upto 4k and that's why it falls back once it catches. But I would think it would slip around 4k under boost. good luck and let us know what you find. I'm still a newbie, but damn, it doesn't sound like clutch slip, unless your wrong.

Question, your launch? Being pretty good, do you mean launching under boost or are you referring to just quick takeoffs from the occasional traffic light? theres a big difference, just trying to find out what you mean.

I had that happen in my old B16a crx, it started in 5th the rpms would go up and speed wouldnt (haha no funny honda jokes) then it started in 4th, by the end of the week i barely got any power down, i had the clutch cable adjusted (it was a Stg3 Clutch Master Kevlar). Not sure if it was breaking in, or having an early death, but since our clutches are hydraulic, id say is clutch slippage. Maybe check if oil is getting on the clutch from possible bad gasket, i doubt it, 24k miles is early for that, either you beat it up good or its slipping for other reasons.

ya know my 2 cents! CLUTCH!

Thats how it begins with a slowly diminishing clutch plate. It just slips a tad(few hundred rpm) usually at high gears. It gets worse over time especially if you drive hard.

Mine just bit the dust after a few good runs with some buddies in the car.

the thing is, if he doesnt realize its the clutch now... he soon enough will after wasting time trying to find another problem.

Its called DENIAL which lots of ppl have. Its a known problem to have weak a$$ clutches in the evo. Everyone who has had one for awhile knows this since they've all gone through it. Order a ACT HD and prepare to get it done. You could get stranded while your unprepared.

Take our advise please.... there has been so many threads with the clutch issue its insane
