Selecting appropriate external wastegate spring
Selecting appropriate external wastegate spring
I've done some searching and didn't really find any conclusive answers. I'm kinda new to the whole turbo thing and didn't really know exactly how to setup the spring levels on an external wastegate. I'll be running a 44mm Tial wastegate to about 30psi and I was just wondering what springs I should get when I order it. The wastegate will be run in conjunction with a 3076r if that's necessary information. Thanks in advance for the help.
The wstegate spring will determine your minimum boost setting.
you wnt to select a spring that will run just about the lowest boost you can imagine running. IE if you will daily drive 20psi, bet a 18-20psi spring. if your going to dailey drive 10psi, you want 8-10psi spring. Use a boost controller to raise the boost for your "race" settings.
stiffer springs give better spoolup and have less tendency to let the WG blow open at higher rpm/boost becuase of exh manifold pressure. Using the stiffest one that will allow your street boost setting is what you want.

There is a link to the spring colors that they may ask you for when ordering. Every one is specified by color, so be sure you get the right ones.
