IX boosting too high?
IX boosting too high?
Well I was putting on a hallman Evolution in-cabin boost controller today on my IX. To make a looooong story short, after hooking up everything the boost controller wasn't restricting boost when it was turned all the way down. Blah blah long story (yes I asked a few people about what could have been the cause, but nothing). So I took it off and put everything back to how it came stock. Well when I was driving afterward, the car seemed to be spiking a bit higher than usual. I have the factory boost gauge in and it would drop all the way past 1.5 bars, to I would guess 1.6 or maybe 1.7 (stock gauge doesn't show further than 1.5). So I am not sure if I could have done something in the swap that would cause this to happen. Is it safe? It's cold today (44 F) so possibly it's just because of the colder than normal weather? I'm just worried that it might be boosting too high for safe levels.. I'm not sure.
I'm getting it tuned this upcoming Saturday by Al so it's probably not a big deal, I'm just trying to make sure.
Thanks ahead of time.
ps. I am aware that the factory gauge cluster isn't the most reliable

My halman you have to turn outward to turn down the boost, and inward to turn it up.......so if you cranked it all the way down it would be all the way up. Did you try that?
Also, did you replace the stock vacuum tubes? They have a restrictor pill inside them.

This is not normal. I'm sure we could have troubleshot the Hallman for you had you asked us, but since you went back to stock, we now need to troubleshoot that. The IX ecu lowers boost when detecting additional airflow, so if you are seeing spikes above 1.5, then you didn't reconnect everything properly.
You have to make absolutely sure that you reused the factory boost lines with BOTH RESTRICTOR PILLS. Hook up everything exactly as it was when stock. Do not use the new vaccuum hoses that you used on the Hallman. Be sure that the long hose coming from the BCS has the pill closest to the BCS, and then make sure the short hose going from the tee to the turbo nipple has the other pill.

****, I can't get to my car till probably Thursday.. Maybe i'll try putting everything back with the hallman and seeing if it's actually reversed?
Or maybe I'll just check all the lines again and make sure I didn't goof up. Although, I'm nearly 100% sure everthing was put back to the way it was when it was stock.. sigh

you also probably had your lines backwards, happened to me the first time i hooked up a MBC in my 03. it wont restrict boost, went for a run shot up to 30 psi, came back and had to take the lines out and give it a good look and realized i had the 2 crossed.
depends on what else you have done to the car and also depends on other factors like location dealing with climate. also there is a really good post on hear about the differnces in using something like the autometer to read your boost as aposed to something like the aem. an evo nine should hit 20.5 then taper. the kinda of gauge u r using is no the most acurate so its most likely fine.
