Question Some questions after a weekend of maintance on my evo.

I did my drivetrain fluid change out this weekend, used Pennzoil Snychromesh for the tranny, and Valvoline SAE 80w90 for the xfer case and rear diff. I know i should use redline MT-90 and Superlight shock proof but i dont really abuse my evo much (its got car seats and a stroller most of the time in it). Ok so here's my questions, after i changed all the fluids and backed it up, when i turned out of my garage it felt like the rear diff locked and the car hopped, then again when i was leaving the street to drive it around the block, it felt like it locked again when i was turning. i got kinda worried and took it around the block a few times to a circle street and made tight circles and then wide circles, didnt do it again, went out in town and acts ok, anyone else have this experence after changing gear oils? also the other guestion is the evo is my first turbo car, is it normal to have to top of the engine oil, i did a oil change about 2000 miles ago and it was down about 1/4 quart, i dont think its leaking, i dont ever see oil puddles, i was thinking its the turbo getting oil blow by into the intake or exhaust, my question is how much is acceptable? thanks for the help! -- Jeremy

i havent noticed the problem you described with the rear diff, but as far as the oil question, to use 1 quart of oil ever 1000 miles is considered industry acceptable.....so if you only used 1/4 quart in 2000 miles on a turbo car, id say you are ok

As long as the oil you are using matches GL5 LSD SAE90 OEM Diaqueen Mitsubishi fluid for the TC and rear diff you should be fine. I think you are supposed to use 90W oil and you are only using 80W Valvoline .... I would switch to OEM fluids in the TC and rear diff if I were you.

Switch to the OEM fluid for the TC and rear diff. I WOULD NOT drive your car with the fluids in it now.

I had a similar problem on my car ... rear diff started to lock up with 27K on the clock (service interval is 15-30K miles ... oops). Changed the fluids to Redline, which worked ... for a whole 3K miles. Then it started locking up again. I now have the OEM fluid in the rear diff and tranny, and it has been good for 6K miles.
