Installed Forge WG Actuator, hit 32 psi!

Well I installed the Forge Wastegate actuator last night. Very nice piece and well made.

I tested the unit prior to installing the boost controller just to determine what spring was inside. I just received the WG actuator the day before, but I don't know what spring is inside.

I set the preload and capped off the line going to my boost controller. Before I knew it, I spiked to 32 psi and then hit boost cut!!!! How did this happen? I thought the sping inside the actuator would have caused the wastegate to open by at the most 23 psi.

I then installed the Forge UNOS MBC with the light spring and I had to make a lot of turns on the MBC just to get it to boost up to 19 psi. I will then spike to 22 psi, hold 19 and then the boost will drop off to 16 psi by redline.

What did I do wrong? BTW, I have already done a pressure test and no leaks.

There is a recent and good thread on this. Long story short... you need to grease the ball as it has a tendency to stick. You are NOT the only one experiencing spikes with this product.

Yes I have researched the other threads and I have greased the pivot ball on the wastegate actuator as part of the install. I am more concerned about not being able to hold boost properly to redline.

You are experiencing boost spikes with a greased ball?

If you just capped off the line to the WGA , then the waste gate will not open at all. You have to put a line directly from the pressure source to the WGA in order to run spring pressure.

+1...Just attach a short hose directly from the compressor nipple to the wastegate nipple. Then adjust the forge wastegate turnbuckle to set the 'base' psi setting.

32psi is OK on stock turbo...

....as long as you are tuned for it!

yeah it just means it won't 32psi for long before a taper. The spike however gives a nice increase in torque

Thanks for the help guys. yeah, I mistakenly capped off the wastegate nipple when I should have run a line from the pressure source to the wastegate actuator. No wonder I was spiking that high. Well, I tried simply taking the wastegate actuaator tubing off and leaving the wastegate actuator nipple open and did some runs at the dragstrip. I peaked at 1.7 bar. I don't know what I was holding because my laptop ran out of battery so I couldn't log. but I am glad I figured something out.

To run wastegate pressure you need to hook up the lines just like you would if you had your boost controller connected but without the boost controller. Leaving the wastegate nipple open is the same as capping it off. You are not controlling boost.

I agree this is not the preferred way of testing boost pressure, but I can assure you that leaving the nipple open is NOT the same as capping it off. I know because I tried and came with two different results. With the nipple capped off, I had crazy boost and hit boost cut, but with the nipple open, I spiked to 1.7 bar and did not hit boost cut.
