Exclamation SSQV Flutter Causing Compressor Surge

Has anybody else had compressor surge with an SSQV on a stock turbo EVO IX at around 3K RPMS when you let off the throttle slightly? Around town it doesn't bother me much, but in 6th gear cruise if I want to pass I have to chop the throttle abruptly to avoid compressor stall.

Also, is it supposed to flutter slightly with partial on/off throttle at any gear?

Waste of time to put an upgraded BOV in a stock turbo car unless you plan on running very high boost with the stock turbo.

I doubt it.... first because very few are rice enough to put that BOV on a IX (much less an VIII). Second, if they did, they'd never post it here on evom.

You're pretty much on your own on this one. Good luck!

Since when is an HKS BOV rice? People are really starting to throw that word everywhere and its old. HKS piece is fine on the right application, not ours.

HKS isn't "rice", but a vent to atmosphere BOV bought for the sound is "rice", especially when it causes driveablility issues. You "wif" me?

If you bought the recirc kit and adjusted it properly, it wouldn't cause driveablility issues, now would it??? Answer, no you wouldn't be a ricer, but you still would have replaced a perfectly good, functional, applicable stock BOV for this setup, with something less, and wasted your money. You "wif" me?

He did mention that if you vent to atmosphere, it isn't a good idea thanks to the problems you'll have with drivability, but if you have the recirc. kit, then your set. Personally speaking, the stock DV on the IX is plenty capable of holding boost and doesn't need to be replaced such as the plastic ones found in the 03-05 Evo's.

I got myself a hks bov and it rocks. I've gotten addicted to the whistle. Now my car actually talks back to me. If you don't have that whistle, then you don't have the full turbo experience.

Did Mr. Dyno or Mrs. 1/4-Mile get involved in this "rockin" conversation between you and your BOV? I'd be interested to hear what they have to say about it.

no, haven't had a chance to get back up to the dragstrip since installed. if it did decrease performance, it wasn't enough to notice by feel.
