Intercooler Piping Kit

I was on www.vividracing.com and looking at their intercooler piping upgrades. It does not say the diameter of the piping but what is the highest we should go on the Evo w/o losing torque. I know a guy with a turbo setup in his civic hatch and is actually downgrading from a 3" pipe to a 2.25" pipe. Ive been told by alot of people that if you go with the intercooler piping upgrade it will actually do more harm than good becuase it will increase turbo spool up time. Does anyone know anything about this??

Well... Look at it this way.. a big water hose will move more water, but be under lower pressure, a smaller hose will require more pressure to move the same amount of water.. If you want to increase the SPEED of the intake charge, you would use smaller pipes because it accelerates the air faster to move the same volume, reducing turbo lag. All of this is a bit of a compromise, in ordert o take advantage of increased volume, you have to reduce restrictions within the whole system, but increasing volume, will reduce velocity if nothing else is changed. I would look for items that are slightly larger (if larger at all) but doesnt have the kinks, seams, or other restrictions.. You'll benifit most that way. Even a small amount of backpressure in the exhaust is needed to allow the system to run as a package correctly..

Hey, did you actually get an Evo? Thought you couldn't afford the insurance?
