Transmission temperature?
So I was in my friends Chevrolet Silverado SS last night playin in the snow and I noticed something interesting that might help us out. This truck had a transmission temperature gauge. Supposedly if the tranny temperature gets to high it automatically changes the gearing in the truck to allow the transmission to cool down, preventing damage. This got me to thinking.... What is our optimal temperature for our car? I can only imagine the amount of heat our trannies produce, and do you think that high temperatures could be the reason Evos have alot of tranny related issues? Could we prevent alot of tranny damage by installing some sort of a temp gauge?
What do you guys think?

There has been some mention that the MR 6 speed may get overheated with extended track time (based on a 2.3 volume vs. 3.0 for the 5 speed). I know there is one person who is now running a transmission cooler on their 6 speed.
All this is taken into consideration during the design of our trannies, our trannies have lots of fins to help with heat dissipation ... I don't think this is an issue for the EVOs. As always a tranny oil cooler is always good insurance.

Did the truck have an automatic tranny? Because that's common. Life of AT's are closely related with ATF temps. Or at least conventional AT's... Plus like mentioned earlier, trucks do towing which puts an extra beating on that tranny.
