Your Experience Changing TC Fluid.

I just changed my tranfer case fluid this weekend and couldn't get enough fluid in the fill hole I had the car on a lift, and used a little less that half a quart before it over flowed. It just didn't seem right; i mean it looks like i hardly put anything in it.

If i recall the specs the TC should hold more fluid that the Rear diff, Right?

The tranfer case takes .58 quart. The rear diff takes the same exact amount i believe.

I had the same thing happen. I was worried I didnt have enough in there either because it started running back out the hole pretty soon after I started putting it in. I tried to fill it a couple more times to make sure but it just kept running out so I know it was full. This was about 2k miles ago with no problems so I guess it had to be right. Definetly seemed more went into the rear diff. I think you are ok.

Did you drive the car around before draining the fluid? You should drain the fluid out when its at least warm, although I cant see that being a huge factor. Im pretty sure both the rear and the TC take the exact same amount of fluid (.58 tq)

Rear diff: .58qt GL-5

I'd drive it a couple of days then put it back on the lift and double check the levels in both. I doubt you would hurt the TC if the level was a bit low. Did you use Mitsubishi Diaqueen lube?

My stealership didn't have any on the shelf. Kwman picked up a gallon from Turbotrixx I think and we had more than enough to do both our cars. Try TRE if Lancer shop is out.
