one for all you techies! :)

i recently saw this on another board! looks very interesting!

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.d...E/60222004/1024

but it then got me thinking about how someone could use this tech today on a normal car!

then i though of this, why not use steam to help spool the trubo, like anti-lag but with out the damge????

the exhaust gasses/manifold/turbo would be hot enough to convert the water into steam. and as steam fills about 1600 times the volume water does it would only take a little bit of water to make a lot of steamand thus spool the turbo! also you would only use it when you came off the throttle so you wouldn't use much. and it would cool the turbine blades down a bit thus reducing the stress on them!

so what you guess think???? could it work? has anyone in motorsport tried it??? what are your thoughts?

thanks you Chris.

sorry about that guys must have missed someting in the link!

sonicnofadz its not just wate injection! if you read the link (now it works) it tells you the prinsipels and im trying to use similer thinking to help with the turbo!

what im trying to work out is if people could use this tech to help spool the turbo sooner. in theroy it works well. you simply spray a small amunt of water into the exhaust manifold when you back of the throttle. the hot exhaust gasses then turn the water to steam. steam fills about 1600 times the volume of water so you only need 0.625ml to make 1 ltr of steam (so we are talking about really small amounts of water). thsi then means that the turbo will be spooling at normal (or higher ) speeds so when you get back on the throttle the power is there!

also you could use it as a 'over boost'! simple spray a little water into the manifold and spin the turbo harder making more boost!! also would help loads on the drag strip where you could get the trubo upto full boost rpm on the line!

its basically trying to make use of all the heat you thow out in the exhaust gasses.

so what you guys think??? could it work?????

Chris.

i think he was talking about water injection! which is old news but not hw pro teams use it or how i was thinking of useing it! lol

i have heard that the Ford WRC team is looking into steam to drive the turbo this year! but as you can guess info is almost none exsistant.

i did find a resonable site that breafly talked about it. will post a link!

thanks Chris.

I thinking as long as the exhaust gases aren't cooled too much it might work (hense why ppl wrap exhaust headers, because hot exhaust air flows faster). So have you considered how much that it may cool?? Or would the benifits out weigh the down side of it cooling (i.e. super charger - forced air to pulley)?

i think if you sprayed the right amount of water (yeah i know it would have to be a trial and erorr thing) then the advatages out weigh the dad pooints!

i am still trying to dig up some information on the Ford WRC team and what they are using. no luck yet!

also was on an inventors website where a similer (well the same in parts) was brought up and one guy said it did work!

will try and get the links and that!

Chris.
